So there is a reason I’ve been so scared for the future. And a reason I’ve also been very happy. @tekla.bsky.social and I have an announcement to make 💕

En-nígaldi-Nanna, the daughter of the last king of the Neo-Babylonian empire (626-539 BCE), had a museum in Ur, complete with 1500 year old artifacts and “museum labels.”

Allegedly he said that the finest invention, though, was air conditioning. Given he was born in Oklahoma and lived most of his life in Texas, I think he’s right

My grandfather was born in 1896 and lived to be 90. I think a lot about how he moved by mule wagon as a child, then saw the invention/popularization of cars, phones, radio, television, airplanes, space travel, and the very beginning of the internet all in his lifetime.

The rumor mill has over time turned this into “because they were close and Andre was too big to ride the school bus,” but the truth is there was no school bus and many locals would just drive a passel of random kids to school on a rotating basis

Samuel Beckett was neighbors with Andre the Giant when Andre was a child, and would sometimes give him a ride to school

The booming IV hydration spa industry, where people pay hundreds of dollars to have vitamins and minerals dripped directly into their veins, operates with virtually no oversight or data backing up its claims, according to the first comprehensive national analysis of hydration clinics.
Hydration spas are largely unregulated, study finds
The first comprehensive research on the growing IV hydration industry finds little oversight of invasive procedures like vitamin drips.

I'm sorry but how does this person have standing to challenge Colorado's ban on LGBTQ conversion therapy when she has explicitly disclaimed any desire to change a patient's sexual orientation or gender identity? How is this a real case? slate.com/news-and-pol...
The Supreme Court’s First Blockbuster Case This Term Looks Pretty Fake
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Chiles v. Salazar, a case that seeks to undo a major triumph of the LGBTQ+ movement.

Right, like I think most people don’t realize that the largest contingent of unhoused people are people who do in fact have work but don’t have the ability to pull together a security deposit plus first and last month’s rent

never mind a month, give them $4200 ONCE and a huge proportion of them could shift their situations

Maybe the most infuriating part of this is that if you just gave most of these people $4200 a month they’d find their own damn housing and get their lives back on track

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.

Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.

I kind of can’t believe this Bari Weiss quote is even real, and yet www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/b...

We’ve been watching House of Guinness, which is trying maybe a little too hard to be Peaky Blinders 2. I think I would prefer this story of a dysfunctional group of siblings to be told in the style of the Righteous Gemstones

@katmabu.bsky.social “landed on the ground” during the protest???
At least one other person, who identified herself on social media as Kat Abughazaleh, a former journalist also running for Congress, landed on the ground during that same protest after she was pushed by a federal law enforcement agent in a camouflage uniform wearing a full face covering, sunglasses and a helmet, video by CNN affiliate WBBM showed.

There's a bigger play going on here. Slumlords coordinating with ICE to roust tenants, steal or destroy their stuff, damage the building so its uninhabitable. All to trigger legal expedited evictions, make insurance claims, and then sell to developers.

Makes me think of the Bronx in the 70’s when they just straight up burned the buildings down.
