Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump.

Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.

Important take-away: while no one response will "solve" the problem of gun violence, we need to layer policies over one another to reduce the likelihood of these events happening so frequently.
First We Grieve

Then we must act.

Very important article written by Dr. Megan Ranney and published in The Atlantic Monthly @theatlantic.com
After tragedies like those this weekend, particularly when the horror of gun violence hits so close to home:

First, we grieve. Then, turn to facts. Then, with understanding rather than anger or fear, we must act - with community and heart at the center. 💜

“Kids who experience discrimination are dealing with stressors that others might not face,” @browncaas.bsky.social Professor @rosalesr.bsky.social says. “If a young person lacks coping strategies...they might turn to less healthy ways of coping—such as alcohol or tobacco.”
Discrimination drives up substance use risk among youth of color, new study finds
Amidst a reversal in youth substance-use trends, a new study links experiences of discrimination among young people of color to an increased risk of turning to substances as a coping mechanism.

Never before in American history has one state's military force been deployed in another state over its objection.

I say never because the Civil War involved states whose governments legally ceased to exist, their offices vacated by constructive resignation, with no legitimate governors to object.

Florida's Surgeon General is dead wrong. Requiring children to get vaccinated to prevent measles, mumps & polio is not akin to "slavery."

Over the past 50 years, vaccines have saved millions of lives & reduced the infant mortality rate by 40%.

Vaccines save lives — period.

How is this not just extortion, as the administration goes after one university after another?
The massive list of suspended UCLA grants came out today: 300 NSF and 500 NIH grants. I am miraculously not on the list, but this is devastating. Science will be lost, progress will be frozen, people will lose jobs, and careers in science and medicine are being destroyed. This is not ok.

Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

Just think of all the cancer, HIV, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other public health research this money could’ve been spent on instead—and weep. “The deployment of 700 Marines and thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles — estimated to last 60 days — will cost about $134 million”

Listening to the nurses...
Medicare for All isn't radical.

What's radical is that we are the only major country not to guarantee health care as a human right.

Don’t believe me?
