There are two main reasons I ended up studying forestry. 1. A love of nature and desire to help restore it in some way. 2. Climate change and more sustainable construction materials. Wouldn't it be lovely for our Ireland to do things mentioned in this article. www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...
How a new approach to Irish timber could help deliver homes
Why aren't we using Irish wood to build Irish homes quickly, cheaply and sustainably at a time when we are in desperate need?

A statistic that concentrates the mind: In the first 6 months of 2025, China installed 250 GW of solar power capacity. This is around 150% of France's aggregate electricity production...

Five species from Ireland's temperate rainforest in five minutes, presented by me! I am super happy with how this turned out, so do take a look. And a huge thank you to Michelle, Daniel, Peter L, and Jenny for making this happen!

The extent of Storm #Eowyn’s impact on forests cannot be seen properly from the ground. This drone footage taken today above a stand I visited in Meath shows how wind hardened trees around the edge remain standing while the centre has been flattened.

"Most of the forestry on both sides of the house was flattened by the storm." A message from a neighbour in Sligo. He sent me some footage and it really was flattened. Our mixed and mono forest down the road could be in a bad way.

One of the larger attractions that entices a move home is the thrill and hullabaloo that builds around these storms. #stormEowyn

A major challenge in restoration ecology is the widespread belief that there is a correct natural community for any given location, and that identifying it is the first step in recreating it. 1/6
