Making ourselves better is the point of democracy.
America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

It is happening!
This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)

Lots of creative signs at the hands off protest yesterday. It’s time for a new batch of call/response and chants. We’ve been using the same retreads for generation. Let’s hear the rhythm and tone of the new generations. #dumptrump #huskmusk

An irony of the current US administration's 'War on Woke' is that efforts to upgrade the quality of American institutions by destroying their ability to 'Bring In The Best' will lead to exactly the kind of low capability that's being falsely identified at the moment...

I promised some historical background relevant to the implication that "DEI" had played a role in Wednesday's tragic accident in DC. Since today is the 1st day of #BlackHistoryMonth, it's time to lay this out.

So, herewith a 🧵 on just what it took to integrate commercial aviation in the 1st place.
Important 🧵 on DEI in airline industry by someone who knows the evidence and why current claims actually endanger safety. 👀

Tl;dr summary: The presence of minorities in professional positions in commercial aviation is the result of hard-won Civil Rights battles. Admission to these fields was never “given.” It had to be fought for. To even insinuate that they have not earned their place is an insult to this entire legacy.

Cynicism is the matched pair with naïveté. Neither require real judgement.
I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

AOC keeping it real #AOC2028
AOC comes out swinging against a Nancy Mace for targeting Sarah McBride.

"They're doing this so that Nancy Mace can ... fundraise off an email. They're not doing this to protect people. They're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kinds. And everybody should reject it. It's gross."

Professors I know you are aware but a reminder that many of our students are crippled with anxiety about the election. Without advocating, try to keep the channel of communication open. They need it, and for some of them we are the only elders in their lives that they can discuss politics with.
