The temple Lafayette meeting was relatively accurate from my knowledge! You would have to ask @craigbrucesmith.bsky.social to be sure though. Yeah, as much as people like the story, Franklin isn’t fucking half of Paris. Too old, not a noble, too ill all the time from gout. He was beloved though.

Unfortunately, no. I had the chance to walk early because the plan was to defend during the summer but things that I cannot talk about publicly… inhibited the defense date from happening. So hopefully I’m done in December.

There’s some stuff that’s ambiguous that they have with artistic license, like the scenes where Franklin talks to Vergennes in secret, but those are some of my favorite scenes because we don’t know what happened in these conversations & the dialogue that these two characters have is quite satisfying

They do get a number of things correct. There is a scene where Madam Brillon brings Franklin to an open salon where his portraits are everywhere. That’s actually a very accurate scene for how he used his celebrity to court nobles who lived outside of Versailles.

There’s aspects of it that are very accurate, but with all tv/movie adaptations they get a lot of things wrong. The thing that will probably be the most annoying is that it’s Michael Douglas playing Michael Douglas, not Michael Douglas playing Ben Franklin. However…
