One last thought, it was interesting that they had a 'bonus' musical guest in a sketch (I'm assuming the K-Pop Demon Hunters are the same people from the movie? tv show?) but the regular musical guest didn't join in, which often happens when they do this.

It was exactly one joke, that they took like 5 minutes to get to.

Jeopardy is an architecture that this show has built so much around, some of the best sketches of all time in the entire run. The go at it this week was perhaps the worst version of that they have ever done, and did it in the very first sketch after the monologue.

I was thinking the entire show that both Thompson and Yang had been pretty quiet, and Thompson more or less was throughout the night, but Yang really brought it (and then some) with the Dobby bit.

And in any case he showed a completely different gear with the Chespirito inspired sketch in the 10 to 1 and knocked it out of the park.

I am also not complaining that this was the Bad Bunny / Hernandez show. You would not think of Bad Bunny's stilted delivery as someone where English is obviously their second language would work, but it does, more or less. Slowing down the pace did improve things.

This goes back to the previous 'generation' sticking around for way too long and not allowing Gardner, Nwodim and the rest of their cohort to really break out when they should have. If not for that, it would've been exactly the right time for them to depart and the Fineman/Dismukes gen to now shine

But Nwodim's absence is going to felt acutely down the stretch, that they have no one else right now that fills her niche. (yes, to speak plainly, definitely demographically but also just her ability to switch back and forth between anchoring a bit and being the best supporting character for it)

Didn't know that both Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim left the show. Gardner's absence was notable in that Chloe Fineman was in everything. The absence of Nwodim was mitigated a bit in that the entire show was the Bad Bunny & Marcello Hernandez show, so everyone else was in the background anyway.

SNL premiere thoughts-
Cold open was good Jost is a better performer than I probably gave him credit for. And the schtick where Johnson is effortlessly break the fourth wall while in the Donald Trump character might get old eventually, but right now it's one of the strongest bits.

I thought that was Eric Adams I first glance.

(insofar as we are going to see electoral results this year, the Democrats are mostly messaging exactly like most critics have wanted. And people who have already been elected in the interim this calendar year have as well, and have either won outright or overperformed significantly)
kendeuel.bsky.social
And the other third of the time (and probably more than that) it's the fact that people seem to think they are going to get electoral results after a snap election in 6 weeks, and can't get their head around it's going to be over another full year in most cases.

Maybe a third of the time "Why aren't the Democrats running with Message X" is a thing the Democrats are not saying a should be. Another third of the time the Democrats have been saying that exact thing that people think they are not saying.

Somebody said he's like Ned Flanders without the charm, but it's even older than that, he's like a walking parody of the Nixon-era Silent Majority from 50 years ago. I can't believe anyone from Louisiana is this much a white bread square, even they are a white guy from Shreveport

Mike Johnson isn't happy that Bad Bunny is performing at the Super Bowl: It sounds like he's not someone who appeals to a broader audience. There's so many eyes on it. A lot of young, impressionable children. In my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that. Not somebody like this.

Put a Bears sweater over the camouflage and they can blend in with Bill Swerski's Superfans.

I think the Washington Football Team Hogs predate sports talk radio as a full time format.
