I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel Laureate and "Godfather of AI" on one of the most important topics of our time: AI risk, the future of work, UBI, and the path forward for humanity x superintelligence

Unfortunately bluesky doesn't do long videos. Link below to our talk

AI will destroy more jobs than it creates.

That’s why Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel Laureate and 'Godfather of AI' says a basic income may be necessary.

"Tax cuts are not what motivates investors or entrepreneurs, they’re not what creates jobs, and they undermine the things that do: broad economic stability and strong consumer demand... [Universal Basic Income] creates reliable consumer demand beyond subsistence spending."

Canada should do UBI.

UBI Works founder @floydmarinescu.bsky.social's op-ed in The Star

As a entrepreneur, Floyd knows corporate tax cuts aren't what drive innovation and entrepreneurship — certainty, consumer demand, and economic security do. That's what Basic Income delivers.
Why Canada’s proposed corporate tax relief is not the answer

It's not that radical
As expected, many still just parrot the same tired tropes instead responding to these points head on in good faith.

An income floor is hyper-capital efficient and costs less than what we're spending today on poverty.

UBI dividends give us a stake in natural & publicly created common wealth.

Lots of newcomers to basic income learning the truth:

- 0 studies showed major drop in work
- saves taxpayers $ long-run (cheaper than poverty)
- most Canadians benefited from some sort of basic income (CCB, GIS)
- people in AI pretty much all support UBI
- it's not left or right (see Alaska's UBI)

Many types of basic income already work today successfully.

Alaska's UBI dividend is being called on as a model for Alberta and US sovereign wealth funds.

A guaranteed income floor is just a negative income tax that would save taxpayers money.

And I wouldn't bet against AI.

We sat down with @daveshap.bsky.social and Dalibor Petrovic, two people leading the frontier of post-labour economics.

Step One: Fire the human workers and help degrade the total economy with both robotics and AI so now millions of out-of-work Americans don’t have money to spend buying shit on Amazon and also robots cost money but don’t spend money

Step Two: ???

Step Three: Profit!
Amazon hopes to replace 600,000 US workers with robots, according to leaked documents
