My god do we need UBI

“Researchers have found that when a new plasma center opens in a neighborhood, foot traffic at local grocery stores increases, interest in payday loans declines and crime goes down, an indication of the way money from plasma props up households’ finances for necessities.“
Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.

Cathie Wood of ARK said youth unemployment will improve as people "go for it" and start businesses with AI

We should all be for lowering the barrier to innovation

But there's a critical unspoken element: entrepreneurs need economic security to take long-term risk, security that UBI provides

Canada's food inflation is TWICE that of the US

We're leading in many things including food, housing costs, and productivity decline

Grocery & Essentials Benefit is a small step, but more needs to be done to tackle the root causes

A livable income floor at least lets people put food on the table

Ireland has shown that basic income works — not just socially, but economically.

Give people time and security to develop their skills, and the returns flow back to society. Now let’s go further.

People will take more chances and push harder to succeed, with the knowledge that if they fail there is a cushion.
Most just keep their head down because they fear losing their jobs

I've been saying for years, UBI won't cause people to not work.
it will cause working people to become more passionate knowing that their needs are met, and non-working people to be able to lower their stress knowing that their needs are met.

Two Canadian economists say UBI is unavoidable.

"Assuming that [AI] will wreak havoc on opportunities for people to support themselves through full-time employment, the right to income will need to be divorced from returns to wage labour to avoid immiserating those without adequate capital."

We are not our job titles. No human can be defined by the work they do so long as they must do whatever work they can find in exchange for existence money.

Absent UBI, you're not a telemarketer. You're a human who food + housing is withheld from to get you to sell a slice of your soul to stay alive
