New paper out in New Phytologist! We show that how we define species in AM fungi is flawed — and propose a better, reproducible approach. Grateful to my brilliant co-authors Nicolas Corradi and Franco Magurno for bringing me in and pushing my thinking.

Proud to present the first data paper from the lab, published today in @pnas.org.

We describe a new mechanism for CLE peptides as local symbiosis-amplifying signals, promoting plant interactions with beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.

This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

Is your NSF grant on this list? Reach out if so!

Ted Cruz released a list of grants flagged for DEI or "neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda" from his Oct. report.

NSF is using keywords from that report for their review, though Cruz's list is likely larger.

Professors have "too much power" in Texas. Not sure whether to scream or laugh!
Hidden behind all the justifiable worry about the #txlege censoring history instruction is Abbott's demand that ALL faculty be removed from the faculty hiring process.

No more hiring committees. Professors would be appointed by HR, administrators, and regents.

Texas lawmakers may ban certain lessons at state colleges under expanded DEI crackdown
Legislators are expected to take up a $360 million proposal that would change the landscape of financial aid in the state.
