Making it illegal isn't an answer to informal settlements. Humans have a right to adequate housing. We should focus on solutions to the problems that we have created, not make it illegal for people to live.

Food banks are a vital part of the social safety net in our communities. It saddens me that 10% of the population of Nevada County relies on the Food Bank of Nevada County. It points to the deep inequities that covid exposed and haven't been solved.

Number 3 is especially important for children on the autistic spectrum. Stay safe!
🏠 🚒 It's always important to prepare your children in the even you have a home fire.
1) Teach them what a smoke alarm sounds like.
2) Practice a family escape plan.
3) Tell them to never go back into a burning home.

I love our Firewise communities here in California Gold Country Region of the American Red Cross! Individually, it's important to prepare your own space, but to truly be prepared takes a community approach!

Did you know that if a fire starts in your home you may have as little as two minutes to escape? ⏲️💨

During a fire, early warning from a working smoke alarm plus a fire escape plan that has been practiced regularly can save lives. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧🏡

Here in Northern California, we tend to focus on wildfires, earthquakes, home fires, and floods. However, while installing smoke alarms a week ago, the number one question asked was, "How do I stay safe during a tornado?"
When a tornado strikes, the safest place to shelter is an interior, windowless room on the lowest level of your place.

If you live in an apartment and can’t get to the first floor of your building safely, here are some other places you can shelter to stay safe.

An earthquake last year damaged the village's water supply, forcing people to trek to a distant, contaminated river.
