“Mama, you are my favorite kind of guy.”
My child is running around in pants that are 3 inches too short for him and a Halloween Buc-ee’s shirt (backwards because he likes the big design to be on the front).

My kid’s school is doing a fundraising raffle aimed at parents, and the prize is getting to skip morning and afternoon car line for all of January. This is a v smart idea.

Just stumbled across a barber on IG who provides free, accommodating haircuts to neurodivergent & nonverbal kids/teens, and I’m just sitting in my car sobbing about it.

Wednesday evening with M (6):

“Do you know who R T Doo T is?”

“Mama. Um. I don’t really want to tell you this, but. What does the middle finger mean?”

Addressing holiday cards always involves a call to my mom to inevitably catch up on any family gossip that might have resulted in a move. Learned about a restraining order!

Wake Up Dead Man was very good!

If you normally get a holiday card from me and you’ve moved in the last year (or if you’ve gotten one intermittently and would like to be sure you get one this year), make sure I have your address!

Everyone left and now it’s just me and M today and tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll feel the drop later today, but for right now, we’re both enjoying some decompression time.

Rolled out of bed and dislocated my elbow at age 3. Decided in the ER that I wanted to be a “bone doctor.” Then got obsessed with forensics in high school and wanted to be a pathologist. Was pre-med until I took genetics my junior year of college and fell in love.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

I never even liked dystopian literature, so living in one is just wildly subpar.

The Bell Jar
Fahrenheit 451
1984
Slaughterhouse V

All within an extremely formative 1-1.5 years around age 19.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

My nails have been making it hard to type and text for weeks now, but I don’t appear any closer to filing them down than I was weeks ago. Curious.
