And if you cannot navigate that question, you should not be bloviating on the finer points of street protest strategy.

I'm not saying punching is the best response to that, but it is certainly a PREDICTABLE response when everyone is scared and on edge and feds are actively disappearing protesters.

When no one is "in charge" of or convening the protest, it takes time and patience and frustration tolerance.
You assess the situation and if no one is in immediate danger, you de-escalate and work it out.
