Not sure I'll write a full blog review for Violent Ends, but have an LB post up. I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, but still worth a look if you're interested in a Arkansas based family crime thriller/drama: letterboxd.com/kino_ventura...
A ★★★ review of Violent Ends (2025)
There's a lot to appreciate with Violent Ends. I thought the look and the autumnal atmosphere were a terrific accompaniment to a grim but often melancholy familial crime drama. Some very solid perform...

I should mention that these opinions are just based on my wandering along the Greenway and thinking about things. I've got no data and am not any kind of expert.

1. A lot of people have fully embraced delivery everything. Food, groceries, furniture, clothes. 2. It's still insanely easy to drive around the TC. I see it in my own neighborhood - people drive instead of taking a 20 minute walk. 3. The economy sucks for a lot of folks and going out is a luxury

Those are high numbers, but not so high to justify "empty Uptown condo" theories that surface on occasion. I do wonder how the addition of all of these units didn't really translate to vibrant street level activity. I think it's a combination of a few things.

Besides the falling prices, I always find the vacancy rate data in these articles interesting. I think Flux was sitting at 8% when it sold, Track 29 is at 7.2% but was as high as 10% last year. finance-commerce.com/2025/10/trac...
Apartments along Midtown Greenway sold for $37M
Track 29 Apartments in Minneapolis’ Uptown sold for $37 million to FPA Multifamily, marking a 30% price drop since 2017, amid market recovery.

Reminds me of MPD with non-violent protestors in 2020.

Either the police are mighty and fearless warriors, or they’re scared enough of a sassy 20-something woman to unload a canister of pepper spray in her face from 2 feet away, but they cannot be both.

How cool! I only stopped by for a bit - bought some things at the shop but wasn't able to see a movie. I'll just have to go back, I guess.

I was traveling for work earlier this week and didn't have a lot of movie time, but I'm full steam ahead on my Horror Gives Back list of movies tagged both as horror and crime. #LastFourWatched

I just visited the IFI for the first time last month, what a cool spot!

1997 always holds a special place in my heart because I moved from my home town and started working in an indie movie theater. I got to see a lot of the movies you mention theatrically as a result!

The greater 26th and Lyndale area is already so good and it's only getting better. I'm thrilled to donate money to help bring Boneshaker within easy walking distance of me.

It was great even on the crappy vhs rip I saw the first time. Really cool to finally have a good copy

Hell yeah, Asylum is a terrific anthology flick and a great way to ease into October viewing.

Quality over quantity this last week. Desperately underseen New Zealand street kid movie, a solid satanic panic doc, what's probably the film of the year, and my brand new 4K of a gritty, NYC crime classic. #LastFourWatched

Absolutely. Definitely the best film adaptation of a Fritz Leiber book.

Killer lineup at the New Bev in October (one day I'll make the trip). I got to see Burn, Witch, Burn! theatrically last year and it was so great. I wrote a review of it a few years back as well: kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2021/10/nigh...

The finale of the latest @wedge.live podcast ep. about Ward 7 nearly caused coffee to shoot out of my nose. Also - vote, donate, volunteer, get the word out, etc. for @katiecashman.bsky.social for City Council this year.

Huh, I'm not shocked that I haven't seen this but I also have absolutely no recollection of it ever existing in the first place.

Hell yeah. I’m glad this just book 1, very curious to see where it goes next

I wrote up a bunch of comic reviews over at Oddmart on Lyndale. Go check em’ out if you’re in the area

It took me a long time to find someone who a) does a decent job, b) is in my neighborhood, and c) understands half of what I'm rambling about.

I couldn't muster any enthusiasm for the preview screenings I had invites for this week. Instead I watched some pretty good movies that don't have much to do with each other. #LastFourWatched
