It is like the distinction between feeling ill because of the flu versus feeling ill because you have lupus. Both feel bad, but the difference matters.

It is important to separate suffering caused by a bad economy (weak growth, lack of opportunity etc) from suffering caused by bad policy (weak safety net, etc). Obviously suffering is suffering. However ignoring these distinctions makes it impossible to know how to ease that suffering.

At some point people need to learn that the poverty rate is mostly about the safety net or lack thereof and not the economy. The economy was doing historically well, real wages rising for the first time in decades, etc. And poverty rose because pandemic safety policies expired.
