I have no idea what I'm doing.

On a human shoe you'd stitch the whole upper, last it (stretch it over a form), attach the sole, and then pull the last out. I can't stitch this bc without a center back zip it can't be flattened, so I'm gluing it as best as I can.

Trying to knock out the rest of the shoe project before Christmas. I found a more efficient solution for skiving the leather down to 1mm thickness (carpenter's rasp *then* big Fiskars razor) so perhaps???

Unreleased cartoon-animal footage. I haven't been able to photograph him since we were reunited because if he's out he yells non-stop to be petted and bites me if I look at the phone.

I have one more of these ¥100 wreath bases left and I'm gonna go beg some kumquats off the neighbors for the last one.

Gonna try making some Christmas wreaths this year with plants from my yard and the apartment balcony garden.
Clockwise from left: red osier dogwood and corkscrew willow, box, sugi, hinoki, yew, ivy, holly osmanthus, two kinds of nandina, and eucalyptus.

It's GOOD, best quiche I have managed thusfar. I mixed some leftover sour cream into the milk component and the extra acid seems to have solved my usual problem of wet interior at this size. The bottom crust is CRISPY it's incredible.

ITS HAPPENING
Verdict: I *will* be making a raised bed to grow some Russet Burbanks, which apparently don't do well in Japan because they like dry weather and harvest too late.

Tatsu got me a waffle maker as my year-end bonus, look at my beautiful giant hashbrown made with leftover tater tots from my attempt at Mormon funeral potatoes (Not Good).

Putting the banana into hibernation. "Dwarf Namwah" is labelled as cold-hardy down to about -12C so hopefully we will see each other again in April.

Finished a DIY task I've been procrastinating on for months: putting metal flashing to close the upstairs clapboards. I am pretty vertiginous all the time so it is scary to work up high.

My year-long landscaping project has culminated in the installation of the snowmelt hose system and I think it's going to solve most of the previous version's issues!

Be honest you watched The Tale of Princess Kaguya and had no idea wtf this guy was doing.

I have to do a nengajo/New Years postcard this year because it is HORSE YEAR but I am so tired of boring 謹賀新年/迎春/etc pseudocalligraphy typography on the main greeting.
Left seal script would look rad in a horseshoe but the Art Deco 賀正一月元旦 is so elegant.

My two least-productive hobbies (cosplay and aquariums) synergizing in unexpected ways (heat-formed PVC sprayer heads for the snowmelt hoses).

That's just a garden hose for testing, the actual supply line from the waterfall is more like a firehose so the spray will be a big ol pressurewasher fan.

Laundry day.

I want to cry with relief, it's actually gonna get done this year. Not aesthetically finished, but floors in, walls closed, and soundproofing done so I can heat the space and sleep.

The view from mid-September for comparison.

Why can Google give me an accurate weather forecast for my location (snow for the next 12 hours) but the Japanese Meteorological Agency can't? The taxpayers are all in Tokai and everyone else can go hang?

Someday I'll get my weed patch to look as good in summer as it does in winter.

Thank fuck it's vacant.

AN IMMENSITY OF NOPE!
December 4, 2025 at 4:31 AM
Yeah, I think especially in winter I will want the alive-plants-colors to look at for mental health purposes...

I have been thinking of chinoserie wallpaper for the upper dining room walls (because birbs), if I pick colors from that it should look cohesive with the sliding doors open 🤔
