The Arcade Archives re-release just gives individual button mappings for each "pressure" level. Very similar trajectory as Street Fighter 1 -> 2, in that sense. :p

Mmhm, I don't think any other game used this type of switch, so it's probably hard to find the OEM parts today. Some players homebrew their own two-stage switch setups, but designing the spacing and timing just right seems tricky (plus some of the custom setups are more cumbersome to mount).

The Bravoman button mechanism is very different than Street Fighter 1, and fits in a standard 30mm button outline. It uses a two-stage switch and measures the time between readings as an approximation for force; the shorter the time interval, the harder/faster the player must have pressed it.

yep, def agree that Seigi no Hero follows mechanically from Keisatsukan dodging and Warzaid/Wartran shielding. but if few players overseas were as familiar with the other Konami lightgun games, it makes sense why they'd figure they may as well call it "3" :p

fwiw, making "Lethal Enforcers 3" the localized title of Seigi no Hero may have been primarily for the brand recognition, similar to "Enforcers" being the working localized title for GunMania. though, there is a stage titled "Lethal Enforcers 3" in the JP version (cf: Resident Evil / Biohazard)

So by issuing the counter-notice, you may be agreeing to appear in court in California. And if they do try to bring you to court, and you refuse to appear, that may result in a default judgement in favor of the claimant? Not sure if there's another way you can be represented w/o physically appearing

these are good questions. i don't know complete answers to how they might want to handle things; maybe they file suit in your country of residence. but also i think this kind of thing should be a civil case (not criminal), so i don't think they can _force_ you to appear in the US either
November 3, 2025 at 11:05 PM
you hope that they decide that they don't actually want to take you to court (because you're too small, because it was easier to slap you with a DMCA claim than anything else, because the facts may not be as clear-cut in their favor), but, are you going to stake on that hope? would you go to court?

there's a) "how copyright law hypothetically applies to this situation" and also b) "how copyright law with practically apply in this situation, in court, if they decide to take you to court."

Galoob v Nintendo should provide for the use of patches held separate from the original work (GG/AR codes, .ips/.bps patches, etc.) but that's a different concern than the ability to display the audiovisual work that gameplay video constitutes.
November 3, 2025 at 9:05 PM
in this case they're choosing to exercise that ability _because_ it's a mod, but it's not necessarily that it's a mod that gives them that ability

hard to say; Nintendo invented and owns the concept of Mario, and they're saying that this is an unauthorized derivative work of Mario. there technically isn't yet a universally established right to upload/stream gameplay, let alone that of a mod. they can try to claim any Mario vid, not just mods

It looks like Super Chinese World (NA: Super Ninja Boy) used the same pun, and the EN loc went with "Notruedamus."
