One of the most valuable books for Pathfinder 1e was the NPC Guide. It contained a unique character for each level of every single class. It saved me countless hours of prep work. But it is also by far the least exciting book in the PF1 range.

It's interesting how my answer would be different for "what I'd find most useful" vs. "what I most wish existed". I love reading adventures and setting books, but monsters, treasures and encounters are what help me prep. Improvising a setting: doable. Improvising play-tested, balanced monsters: hard

As a docs reader, it's nice to have all docs searchable in one place. Microsoft hosts some of their windows crate docs themselves and it's always a journey to find their docs site again. Would be cool if such crates were still indexed on crates.io even if the actual docs live elsewhere. ActivityPub?

Once I inevitably enable rainbow brackets and semantic highlighting for identifiers, there won't be much left of whatever theme I am using 😂🌈 (the IntelliJ one is fine, I guess)

Congrats! Very much also believe that jj has what it takes to end git monoculture. Wish you all the best

I also think about the engineer(s) who implemented this dialog and the change to denylist notepad.exe. Were they spineless yes-men? Or were they taken for a ride with smooth talk about "protecting users from themselves" or data-driven nonsense like "98.7% of users love the new notepad"?

Why do you even care? If a user doesn't want your new AI bullshit version of notepad, you are not going to win them over anyway. And the audacity, to think you have any say in which application I use to interact with my files, shows a staggering disconnect between MS decision making and their users.

I don't feel this is the case for async implementations where async routines don't need to be "driven to completion" (.NET, Web platform). There, you _may_ wait for an async routine to complete, but whether you do is entirely orthogonal to the execution of the async routine.

Same. I'm glad the "wE tHinK 30fps iS mOrE cInEmaTic" excuse didn't stick.

That's wild! Here, the European GDPR's Right to rectification (art 16) would come in handy. I always found that part of the law bizarre, but looking back it was oddly prescient. Libel laws are really hard to wield against AI because they will argue that they weren't *knowingly* spreading lies.

Love it!

Today, I use (paid) proton for email/calendar and (paid) Kagi for search. I still use YouTube and Google Maps, though. Yes alternatives exist, but my personal risk profile is way different. If I lost access to maps one day: no big deal vs. if I lost access to Gmail I would have been ruined before.

Reducing my Google dependence took a long time. Get an email provider that lets you bring your own domain. That way, the provider doesn't "own" your identity, and you can always switch providers while your email address stays the same. I then slowly started using my new address. Took about a year.

Yay! Embarked on the same journey this week. 🐧If I get Affinity to run, I'll have 95% of my needs covered. Dual boot will cover the rest.
Good luck 🤞

Awesome, thanks! 🥳

I enjoyed Alters, but to be crystal clear: I won't pay you or any other studio for AI garbage. If I wanted creatively bankrupt, average af AI slop, I can generate that myself, thanks. I don't need you as a middleman. When I pay for a game, it's for the human craftsmanship, expertise and creativity.

Danke für die wichtige Recherche! Hat das Finanzdepartement begründet, warum sie den Bericht nicht herausrückt? Oder war's schlicht "Sehr geehrte Frau Ineichen,

Vielen Dank für Ihre Anfrage.
Nein.

Freundliche Grüsse"?

If you do want the old notepad back, you can uninstall the Windows Store Version of notepad (installed secretly and without your consent) and fall back to the old version shipped with the OS. You will have to create a Start Menu entry for it.

Last time I had to use git (repo with a submodule) it was absolutely bewildering. Intellectually I still knew git's model, but emotionally I was like: why is what I actually want to do obscured behind arcane steps and concepts? Why not just do the thing? Why should I care about your index/stage?
