We have ears that get itchy. We have q tips that are itchy ear shaped. Yet we, the tool using apes, are told not to use the latter for the former. Make it make sense.

Absolute Meisterklasse in ästhetischer Konfliktforschung, in der Big Joel einfach irritiert auf Tweets reagiert, die ihn wegen seiner Kritik an Zack Snyders "300" attackieren, dann die Reaktionen in ihrer Emotionalität analysiert, dann seine Reaktion analysiert.

New results from @lastpositivist.bsky.social‘s grad student group chat
An instance of the „finally…“ meme, in which a scientist marvels at a green liquid in a test tube; this instance reads: „FINALLY… EPISTEMIC KNOWING“

Idk some forms of unreliability of LLMs have gotten better over the last couple of years; and I dont think it needs to be 100% reliable to be useful. I expect to always have to double check, but if checking takes 10 min but skimming the text takes 30 then even 66% accuracy saves in expectation 10min

idk I have uploaded texts to Claude before and asked it things like „was that idea in this text and where?“ and „does the author address this objection and how?“ and stuff like that.
Has honestly usually been too unreliable to be useful, but in principle I think sth like this could work.

If you think saying "policy had costs" is the same as saying "policy was a gigantic mistake" then you're genuinely just not gonna be able to sensibly reason about politics. 🤷🏽

Prominent left/liberal folks retconning the COVID school closure thing as some sort of gigantic mistake is one of the nuttiest examples of consent manufacturing I've ever seen.

Escher doesn't even realise that steps traversed in a single direction can go up or down but not both, yet everyone acts like he's a genius? Man is incompetent in ways I wouldn't even have thought possible 🙄

my new theory is that once you have a certain amount of money and wealth you start to go crazy and detach from reality. that number is different for everyone. for me it's $20

Reading work by a student on how to behave rationally and just struck by - this person chose to do a philosophy PhD! And so did I! How can we presume to judge!? How can I presume to instruct? The blind are leading the blind!

Yet because I cannot stop with these intuitions, if they are to become cognitions, but must refer them as representations to something as their object and determine this object through them, ...

Proposed compromise: the effective altruists admit that maybe the tech gajillionaire crowd should not be in charge of everything, and the rest of us concede that we probably should be giving more money to the poor.

Wherever you get a "remember what they took from you" schtick "what" always turns out just to be childhood, and "they" are just the passing of time.

how is every Twitter post like this now, the worlds most boring losers nostalgic for 2004. Grow up! This site used to be good!!

I have a theory that WW3 has been deterred between 1945 and now not primarily by nuclear weapons but by living memory of 60m dying in a single war. As the memory fades, its deterrent power wanes.

Kisin is getting a lot of flack for his take on the German terrorist attack but the fact is he's right: AFD supporters cannot be tolerated in polite society, and they are objectively worse as people.
Image of a tweet from Konstantin Kisin: "Western countries won't stop suffering terrorist attack after terrorist attack until they let go of their most cherished belief: that all people are equal and that all cultures are the same."

Recently took a peek at Twitter and the disinformation is getting substantially more dangerous. Someone could get killed.

The tactics of constantly repeating outright lies, targeting specific people, repurposing years-old footage and presenting them as new is getting to another level. It’s scary.

Das ist übrigens das Ergebnis eines Systems, das jegliche Eingriffe in die Einkommens- und Vermögensverteilung als „Weg zur Knechtschaft“ abtut und so der Oligarchie den Teppich ausrollt.
