Social movement scholar here. ICE is a MUCH stronger electoral enemy than DT since ICE is a material force in communities for two reasons:

1.) It forces a confrontation with the secret police and returns to convo about surveillance, extrajudicial murder, and police funding + immigration.
This is a test for Democrats right now.

If you really want to grab the mantle of leadership and emerge as a frontrunner, you have to speak out forcefully and against ICE...

Right now.

No centrist mealy-mouthed bullshit.

Ex-ICE director told me: “That mentality you’re fostering tends to inculcate in people a certain aggressiveness"

It’s hard to believe that one man can cause so much stress, so much fear, so much pain and suffering…a man who took an oath to preserve and protect our Constitution. This man, who is inciting terror across our land, must be removed from office. In a sane world, it would happen immediately.

Let’s be clear: the Trump Admin is lying to the American people. This has never been about stopping drugs from coming to the US — it’s about grabbing Venezuela’s oil for his billionaire buddies. Trump has put American troops in harm’s way to boost oil company profits. Outrageous.

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

Very telling that oligarchs want to be called aristocrats. On the donors who think they deserve to rule:

I hate to be that guy, but this is the five-alarm fire, and every elected Democrat and frankly, every Washington reporter should be ringing the bell. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. Nobody with a voice should give this administration a moment’s peace about it.
NEW: A second filing today from the DOJ tells Judge Xinis that in their view, since Mr. Abrego is in Bukele's custody, she can't order them to do anything further to bring him back since that's not what "facilitate" means.

They also say the deal with Bukele is classified and/or a state secret.

It must also be said that the resistance of the broader US public to the lure of fascism in the 1930s was not due to any moral clarity but because they were relentlessly propagandized by FDR and allies to reject these ideas and embrace more liberal ones. They weren’t better people than we are.
I’d also like to add that we don’t have very many stories about fascist ideology here in the United States aside from 1930s “America First” movements when Confederates, Redeemers, the first and second Klan, Dixiecrats, and McCarthyism all have hallmarks of fascist thinking.
