All I knew about Charlie Kirk before his death was that he was a right-wing personality. I'd never heard him speak until I saw the video from seconds before he was shot.
During which time, I thought: "Oh, he's Rush Limbaugh. Doing the 'entertaining blowhard' schtick. And that's... the whole story."

This proves five things:

1. The protests in LA were peaceful
2. The National Guard and Marines were unnecessary
3. ICE officers lie
4. DHS stats on ICE agent assaults are overblown
5. You can not, in fact, indict a ham sandwich if you have no case

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists.

This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Trump and Miller are intent on building an unaccountable domestic secret police force that would be the world's third-biggest security force by funding levels, after the US and China's *militaries*.

That kind of funding dwarfs its stated purpose, which tells you what its real purpose will be.

Part 3:

"Or do you believe that Franco was really good for the Spanish, or Mussolini for the Italians, or Hitler for the (‘Aryan’) Germans? You might also recall the important role played by the Ku Klux Klan in keeping the mass of white Southerners impoverished.”

Part 2:
“If you know any history at all, you know that, when nationalism approaches or reaches the level of fascism--not to mention genocidal fascism, as with Netanyahu's people--it tends to be very bad news for the people whom the nationalists claim to represent and exalt.”

Here’s Part 1 of a public post by a friend of mine on FB:
“As a Jew, I feel far more threatened by the government of Israel than by the government of Iran--or, for that matter, by any other government on the face of the earth. This is just obvious common sense.”

My kid's "Career Skills of Fish n Wildlife" HW involves searching up jobs on gov websites. Pages that had literally 100s of postings last term are now blank. Or have 1 job listed. Her entire career has been obliterated by the Tr*mp regime. She wonders what the point of finishing her degree is.

I’ve been baffled by Trump’s obliteration of US science, education, medicine, etc.
But the tariffs clarify things:
He’s taking stuff away so that he can preferentially give it back.
It’s the “Muad’dib” theory of dictatorship: create a scarcity crisis to which his favor only is the solution.

Tonight an unbelievable **34,000 people** gathered for our Denver rally to take on billionaires and win our country back.

This was the largest political gathering in Denver since Obama in 2008.

Also bigger than the 2024 DNC.

And the largest ever rally in Bernie’s career (and obviously, mine too).

Between the lawyer Rachel Cohen and various university presidents, I'm feeling that if the professional class (lawyers, teachers, doctors, scientists, etc.) is able to get its collective act together, Trump is toast.
Otherwise the professions themselves are toast.
As powerful law firms roll over for Trump, one lawyer has had enough
Rachel Cohen, an associate at Skadden, resigned and demanded Big Law grow a spine.

Schumer snatches defeat from the jaws of victory: the special skill of establishment Democrats.
And all in the name of… themselves, basically. Certainly not us.
Meanwhile, progressives like Sanders and AOC fight on, plainly and straightforwardly on our side.

Anakin and Palpatine.
Pretty clear who the Jedi are in this scenario. (We need to start calling them the Fedi. They’re certainly heroes.)

First they came for the immigrants
And I did not speak out
Because I was not an immigrant.

Then they came for the trans people
And I did not speak out
Because I was not trans.

It’d be fun if politicians in Mexico, in response to the renaming of the Gulf, temporarily renamed their country America.
And since its current full name is the United Mexican States, it could become the United American States. Trumpers won’t know where they live anymore. (Not that they ever did.)

I’ve long felt universal public healthcare would help heal divisions in the US by affirming a common commitment and destiny for all Americans.
The Mangione murder and the mass response to it is the “negative” expression of this.
We ALL know private insurance is preying on us.
Time for common action.

Bezos and Singer are ostensibly two of the most powerful booksellers in the world, so you know. Support your local library or indie, or if you don't have one use bookshop.org, Libby, and libro.fm for your book, ebook and audiobook needs.
