Much fun has been had about the high lewd to in-game pic ratio in the game covers I've been scanning. While hilarious, in the world of #PC98, this doesn't mean the games are bad, or an afterthought.🧵 I think the higher-ups / marketing guys just had a "firm" stance on which "assets" to promote 😹

My inclination is always to file these under "Suruga staffer smoking crack at the warehouse", but I wonder if it might indeed be the case that some people walk in saying "I don't think this works", ready to accept a pittance for their treasures, w/o the staff having to inspect the disks 🤷‍♀️

I forgot to post up my VCFMW table setup yesterday. There were so many lovely folks to chat with and share my love of these systems with.

The lead-up work for conventions is so stressful, but seeing so many folks connect with systems from Japan makes it all worthwhile.

Six systems set up on tables - Casio Loopy, NEC PC-9821, Fujitsu FM-NEW7, Sharp X68000, Sharp MZ-1500, and Panasonic A1 MSX2 - playing different games or running different software.

Check this: AFAICT undumped Usagi na Panic EX - a CD compilation that includes 1 + 2 (presumably identical to disk versions, but who knows?) plus a Takarabako extra (presumably undumped). Only copy I've ever seen pop up :^) #PC98

in NP21/W, you just put the .d88 in FDD1, and it boots into the game just fine. not sure what you're doing wrong there

the thing with these is, my "best" drive is just barely low-noise (or whatever the right technical term for 800k mac compatibility is) enough to get good reads of them. and sometimes i'm left wondering if the last bad sectors are from damage, or the drive not being good enough. hashtag mac life

i'm generally pretty aware of the homages as they come out (and am very good friends with some of the folks behind one of the ones y'all have mentioned, in fact)

Oh I was talking about Suruga-ya listings, btw. There's a bit of added risk with Yahoo Auctions, since the owner may have confirmed the disk doesn't work by putting it in a drive, and spinning up dirty disks can scratch=kill them. But as long as there are no thick white scratches, you should be fine

I buy these "doesn't work (mold)" listings all the time, and 5.25" disks (especially 40-track ones) are practically always salvageable with cleaning. That said, you have to do it right, so check out my floppy dumping guide and the accompanying cleaning tutorial vid :^) krugman.net/dumping/
