Very good thread. I’ll add that we can’t only pressure our admin to lead this. We have to figure out how to make our cases directly to the public while we try to get our university leaders to use their far bigger microphones to do the same

Universities need to treat the Trump administration's hostage lists as organizing lists. A large majority of the universities on these lists should issue a JOINT public response making clear that they won't give in and why they're right not to.

That creates space for the rest of the sector to join.

Today would have been the 52nd anniversary of Roe V. Wade, had it not been overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois will be closing four health centers, including one in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, due to a financial shortfall and an “uncertain patient care landscape” under the Donald Trump administration.

What kind of justification is "this is outside our scope"? Abdicating the moral imperative implicit in being a so-called expert is such a disappointing and unsurprising look. History seems to still be enamored with the myth of non political education.

If you spend any time on r/Professors on reddit you will see that lack of empathy and feelings of hostility towards students are absolutely rampant amongst the professoriate. It should come as no surprise that professors who care produce better results for their pupils.

RIP Pinto Bean. Gone but never forgotten.
As we approach pandemic year 5, I’ve been reflecting on some of the silly human community interactions that sprung up in the last few years

For example: UIUC students fell in love with a piebald squirrel, so much so that when he died they had him preserved
