I won’t get a heat pump unless you ban gas boilers. I will lose a lot of space for a hot water tank and a big chunk of small garden. Think there needs to be something better for flats

Out of interest, checked what his former wingman had to say on the issue. Nothing, but did come across this gem.

as someone who spent six years in failed IVF I can assure you that should not be the first answer to a falling birth rate. It's a great answer for doctors having nicer houses though

Govt is reintroducing Priti Patel's 2022 asylum reforms (temporary protection of 30 momths) without going as far as Braverman 2023

Silly sloganising about "open borders" may explain why it hasn't noticed its own plagiarism & can't answer why the boats didn't stop in 2023

Shabana Mahmood is already the third British Asian woman to be a tough talking Home Secretary on asylum. But the fate of Priti Patel's very similar reforms cast doubt on how far these changes are the key to control in the Channel. My Eastern Eye column this week

Shabana Mahmood’s hard line on asylum risks repeating Tory failures
Home Office’s statistical bulletin reported last month that the UK received the fifth largest number of asylum seekers in the year ending March 2025

As others have noted, Starmer gave two rather contradictory statements this morning that were evidently written by different members of his team. (Itself a mark of the lack of direction). Someone in Number 10 clearly likes the "open borders" line; someone else doesn't. And Starmer veers between them

i mean there's a lot i wish labour were doing strategically but the 'open borders' line they love so much just does not work. feel like it entirely possible to articulate what was actually so corrosive to public trust (which was saying one thing while doing another)
No 10 says Jenrick was an open borders pro-immigration minister while PM says he was toxic + divisive.

but he does deliberately inflame. When he talks about the incalculable damage of immigration and suggests we risk becoming an island of strangers that is designed to inflame. It is awful. And as a brown person it makes me afraid. And I worked to get him elected!

Did Louise Perry not write a book about how the sexual revolution had gone too far? Is she pro-pron now?
