I open every match with a quick "Hey! Good luck, have fun!" and my favourite is when there's no reply until the final ten seconds of the match, when it's just a string of expletives and complaints. 😈

They cast Mystical Tutor for Mana Drain when I'm already on board, so I play to maximize damage without casting anything into it, jettisoning a Seasoned Pyromancer in order to get its tokens from the graveyard, and they die without meaningful development. Maybe... you just got outplayed, friend?

"i hate losing to trash" my opponent types in chat, before conceding to my 3-0, 6-0 Boros aggro deck that was efficient, redundant, synergistic without compromising card quality, with a tight curve that anchored on powerful two-drops, that beat them by playing to the board without overcommitting.

For me, I think of this as being "genre adverse" rather than being "genre savvy" - a truly genre savvy group would purposefully split the party and trounce around in the pumpkin patch at night, because they know that's what's *supposed* to happen. To do otherwise is anti-genre behaviour.

Yes! I've been playing since I was ten, though only really got back in around Kaldheim.

This deck did not feel like it was supposed to trophy a vintage cube elimination draft. (I'm sitting at 68 QPs right now, making this my most winningest season ever.)

Awww, I'm glad that you felt invited into the space at the speakers dinner! It was lovely to meet you.

At @qgcon.bsky.social for like one whole hour this weekend and managed to catch this amazingly titled @lackingceremony.bsky.social talk which unlike her I am 100% certain also applies to boardgames (and 45% sure for digital experiences)
Slide: loose touchable design for leaky, excitable creature - strategies for tabletop roleplaying game design that stays embodied and immersive (Avery Alder)

Answering a few quick emails on my laptop at the airport, where they are blasting The Chemical Brothers very loud for some reason, and it's hard to not feel like a very cool hacker under these conditions. I am resisting the urge to whisper "I'm in" in every single second right now.

Shout out to @chobbs.bsky.social, @keichiokami.itch.io, and @fattig.bsky.social because the terms that absolutely clicked for me were "defanged" and "sanitized"

I need help finding a word. I'm trying to say: the kind of editing or polishing that results in an end product that is *perhaps* more technically proficient, broadly palatable, or aligned with commonly practiced standards... but which strips the thing of its resonance, unique spark, or janky charm.

More highlights:
-A fantastic eight person game of Going For Broke which spawned the fantastic spinoff series title: "Hooked On Beth"
-Selling out of all the Dream Askew copies I brought, halfway through day two!
A price list for Buried Without Ceremony games, with a "sold out" sticker over one of the titles.

I desperately want to know which strange darling writer/director this is referring to!

I'm a guest at @kamcon.bsky.social this weekend! My highlights so far:
-winning Taskmaster (partially on the back of my "best worst gift" - I showed up with a lovingly plated tuna jello salad)
-having someone exclaim "This is everything I hoped for & more!" during character creation in Dream Askew.

I am a very big proponent of "start by designing and laying out all the materials your players will actually touch, and reverse-engineer the rulebook much later" design.
