A political philosopher on this platform posted a screenshot of a passage from A Theory of Justice by John Rawls. It think that's a good idea, and I'm going to start a pinned thread with quotes from the book.
Florida and Utah seem to be in a competition for the most bizarre crimes. We get our share of crime here in metro Atlanta, but those two states seem to audition for true crime documentaries.

The DOJ has really ramped up it's "Make America White-dominated Again" campaign:

Until the Tea Party rallies, I gave the news side of Fox News the benefit of the doubt.

The opinion/talking head side of Fox astroturfed the Tea Party into existence, then the news side amplified it far beyond what it would have been otherwise.

The Take Care Clause was a byproduct of the lessons learned from the Glorious Revolution that the executive should not be able to dispense with the law promulgated by the legislature. It was not a constitutional provision to empower the executive branch— but to constrain it!

I've spent my whole adult life hoping that the South would grow out of this goofy, casual Lil Abner-character sort of local corruption. I'm still hoping, but doubt I'll live to see it.

I've loved Sigourney Weaver ever since one of my all-time favorite movies, ALIEN. Couldn't resist going all fanboy on her yesterday & asking for a photo. She told me she's now in the cast of The Mandalorian. Talk about bad timing: she's now in that galaxy far, far away, years after I checked out! 💔

It's depressing to look in my press release folder, and see the DOJ's gradual creep toward explicitly white supremacist policies:
Department of Justice Rule Restores Equal Protection for All in Civil Rights Enforcement
Today, the Justice Department issued a final rule updating its regulations under Title VI of the Civil Rights of 1964. This rule ensures that our nation’s federal civil rights laws are firmly grounded...

I don't have any particular beef with the LDS (although the church's obsession with masturbation, pornography and demonic possession creates the conditions for folks like Jodi Hildebrandt and Lori Daybell to thrive).

it’s been pretty funny to see Polis’ addiction to posting completely end any discussion of him as a potential 2028 candidate

War as a moral metaphor is limited, limiting, and dangerous. By reducing the choices of action to “a war against” whatever-it-is, you divide the world into Me or Us (good) and Them or It (bad) and reduce the ethical complexity and moral richness of our life to Yes/No, On/Off.

I just noticed that WSJ (Murdoch) seems to have bought Investor's Business Daily at some point. I just noticed it on my WSJ tab. I always thought of IBD as the World Net Daily of investment sites, lots of "technical" mumbo-jumbo interspersed with shrill right-wing rants.

Weird that the person who shot their puppy point blank in the head and tossed their body into a gravel pit because they couldn’t figure out how to properly train them also can’t be bothered to figure out how hurricanes work.

Admiral Holsey is to this serial murder in the Caribbean as Hugh Thompson was to the butchery at My Lai --
that is to say a great American and a lone, solitary credit to its armed forces in a moment when a great and unremovable stain was put upon the honor of the entire American military.
Remember 6 weeks ago when Admiral Alvin Holsey, head of the U.S. military’s southern command, abruptly decided to retire?
Makes me think at least one top-ranking officer knows what a war crime is.
