MDJ: a space dedicated to amplifying voices, ideas, and actions for social justice, equality, and collective liberation.
They did it.
They have been harming, maiming, caging, shaving, and destroying our Brown & Black bodies since their very inception. From the beginning, this system has relied on terror, dehumanization, and the quiet belief that some lives are disposable.

After all of the pain that our immigrant communities have endured, I need to process that a former immigrant is the fkn mayor of New York. 🗽

Targeting trans folx and calling it justice is wrong. Telling the truth, even when it’s inconvenient on who the MAJORITY IS, should be common sense.

What More Must Be Said?

A poem from the heartache of witnessing silence where there should be holy fire. 🕊️

I’d like to not have to heal from yet another day of anti-immigrant propaganda.

May our children reap the benefits of our healing.

The work we do now, the therapy sessions, the hard conversations, the boundaries, the breaking of cycles…isn’t just for us. It’s an inheritance of safety, love, and trust.

Perspective is powerful. Two people can look at the same situation and walk away with completely different truths. What we see, or think we see, can be shaped by where we’re standing, what we’ve experienced, and what we’ve been taught to expect.

To all my Caucasian friends and acquaintances, immigrants need accomplices like the ones in the @life_by_dani IG video, not allies. People willing to question and elevate what is happening because you won’t get harmed the same way a Brown or Black person would. Leveled-up Karens, if you will.

Kilmar is home, and that’s worth celebrating. The deeper injustice is what he had to survive just to BE home.

I really hate that it took an affair at a Coldplay concert to bring us together as a society. The memes are phenomenal but, damn.

The In-Between

They etched it deep in marble stone,
“No one is free until we are all free,”
A truth too often whispered low
As if freedom waits quietly.

But freedom is not a final breath,
A eulogy wrapped in grief and gold.
It should not rise from death’s regret,
Or bloom from bodies turning cold.

Here’s a New Year’s Resolution:

Be on the side that reads books — not the side that bans them.

Deep gratitude to the Tonantzin Society and Yaoxochitli for this powerful graphic and reminder: Joel Poinsett didn't "discover" anything. This is the Cuetlaxóchitl, a flower native to México.

Octavia Butler being a time traveler or seer, will forever be a hill I'm willing to die on, because there's just no way. Parable of The Sower was published in 1993. Look at this date. #BlackBookSky #BookSky
