I've been seeing my favorite fuzzy friends around! 🍂🐛
Illustration of a wooly (sometimes spelled woolly) bear caterpillar. It's fuzzy and cute and has a happy little smile. There's lines radiating around it and above it says "it's wooly time!" in lowercase hand lettering. The background is a light orange checkered pattern.

the first minute and a bit of a project i've been working on for several years now!

Or, the Modern Prometheus is my adaptation of the bookends of Frankenstein that i've made by cutting together public domain films and footage. it started as an experiment and i'm extremely excited to share it!

After almost 20 years together, my sweet old gal Evey passed away early this morning. A piece of my heart is missing now, but I'm grateful I was able to be with her in her final moments and help ease her passage

A gift card or trip to let her buy fancy yarn at a local shop might be nice! Or a way to organize her stash if she doesn’t have a system yet

The function of the waffles joke is an in-group signifier. Singal, Graber, and Oppiliappan are showing in-group solidarity; they're all in on a joke. The joke is they have institutional power, and you don't, and they feel contempt for you, that you still want to have opinions about how power's used.

shout out to this noun project artist who made the only three icons you will ever need

+1 on this recc! Something I've been incorporating into my self-care and my relationship with technology is the concept of pleasure-seeking. The wire mother of the digital age hijacks your dopamine without providing tangible reward. You'll struggle to reject it unless you find better pleasure.

#art #illustration #peachtober
A digital drawing featuring some little panels with landscapes insidethem, a big flower, and a vase of flowers. In one of the landscape is a person with a beret and a backpack, and in the other a kite is flying around the landscape. On top of all of it is the text "let the wind carry you to where you're meant to go".

For a different way to look at it:

Yeah, bringing up unrelated topics (waffles) in response a benign opinion (pancakes) can be annoying.

This is more like a ihop manager insisting that we only talk about pancakes, while the entire clientele is saying "rats are running free in your restaurant"
lauraehall.bsky.social
For context, these are the ones I’ve seen
Paul Frazee quotes a Louvre of Bluesky post with the word “waffles” and rts himself saying “Ready to die on the hill of "social media doesn't have to suck"” Jay of Bluesky says “Amazing breakfast this morning. I love waffles” with a photo of a waffle
lauraehall.bsky.social
People are upset about changes to the TOS and how some moderation choices have been handled as the site has grown. A lot of people will reply to anything staff posts with comments about it. Staff are talking about waffles etc, a ref to the attached post, which is itself a riff on a different meme
Jerry Chen @jcsalterego.bsky.social: “(bluesky user bursts into Waffle House) OH SO YOU HATE PANCAKES??”

Jay @jay.bsky.team: “Too real. We're going to try to fix this. Social media doesn't have to be this way.”

October 1, 2025 at 8:18 AM
Coolee Bravo @BravoCoolee: “Twitter the only place where well articulated sentences still get misinterpreted. You can say "I like pancakes" and somebody will say "So you hate waffles?" No bitch. Dats a whole new sentence. Wtf is you talkin about.”

Heart Shaped Box really got to me, so did The Strain (I listened to that as an audiobook at night and had actual nightmares)
lauraehall.bsky.social
I think what’s smarting for me also is that I’m the Bsky defender among my friends, many of whom are still on Twitter. The experience here and ability to control what you see and how is great and I’ve gotten lots of people to open accounts here. Don’t make me look bad for being a fan and advocate
lauraehall.bsky.social
Yeah, I know what you mean, I really do have a lot of empathy for what they're going through. And I don't wanna leave! I like it here!
lauraehall.bsky.social
I mean, I know you're also being glib but I'm sure that isn't going to happen, they're experiencing a tough & very human situation (suddenly being on the receiving end of a lot of displeasure). But it's an inevitable part of running a business, and it's a bad look for the CEO to harsh the vibe
lauraehall.bsky.social
But it still doesn't make replies like that appropriate. As you point out, it's a customer service thing (and in my biased opinion, a community management and branding issue)
lauraehall.bsky.social
I think it's pretty exhausting to have built a space you think is cool and fun and that you're proud of, and then it gets huge, and everything you post is scrutinized and replied to with off-topic (though site-relevant) stuff. You can't enjoy it in the same way, and that does really suck
lauraehall.bsky.social
I fear it is inevitable Pokey. Reinstalling IRC now to get ahead of things

I don’t even normally post many strong opinions on here because I don’t like engaging in discourse but this is pissin me off. Don’t fuck this up for us, I don’t want to go back to phpbb
