Little report from the ground: For folks not in LA, the images of protests you’re seeing at just the tip of the iceberg. In every corner of this city, people are mobilizing—gathering and distributing donations, taking up vigil at Home Depot’s and car washes, filming, sending out 🧊 alerts…

It’s so telling that Trump and other republicans are accusing LA protestors being “paid insurrectionists.” Like they literally can’t conceive of being motivated by love, care and protection of your community. Only personal economic gain.

BREAKING: A few minutes ago, a vehicle of three people was rammed by a truck belonging to federal immigration authorities in Boyle Heights, CA. According to security footage shown to me, they deployed chemical munitions & detained the driver at gunpoint. All are US citizens according to the wife.

Curious how other editors are approaching pitches without clips in the current AI landscape.

I’ve noticed that all the overtly AI-generated pitches I get lack clips and often whole bios. It’s become a kind of red flag for me…

Taking a much needed pause on my manuscript before diving into revisions so this seems… kinda perfect? With the end of the school year, a ballet recital, and my parents visiting, will be super easy to sideline my writing. So *sigh* to the detriment of my sleep, sign me up!

Currently editing a writer who reminds me so much of my younger writer self. Their first draft was full of gorgeous poetic language but was all exposition, summary, reflection. Their final draft kept some of that language but anchored it in scenes and tangible descriptions. And it’s so so good.

So much of my inbox these days.
Experienced & busy editor here, and I just spent an annoyingly long time reading and considering a bunch of half-decent pitches before I realized they all followed the same format and were from email addresses that followed the same format. AI is getting GOOD, y'all. Don't be fooled.

The Supreme Court won’t save us. The Democrats won’t save us. We gotta save ourselves.
Breaking News: The Supreme Court blocked a federal judge’s ruling that had ordered the Trump administration to rehire thousands of probationary federal workers. The court said the groups that had challenged the dismissals had not suffered the sort of injury that gave them standing to sue.
Supreme Court Pauses Ruling Requiring Rehiring of 16,000 Probationary Workers
A federal judge in California had ordered the Trump administration to rehire government employees fired as part of its efforts to slash the federal work force.

Once thing we can say for certain is that Donald Trump has been convicted of more crimes than some of the people he is deporting to a black hole in el salvador with no due process or recourse www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Trump’s Salvadoran Gulag
To be deported, one does not need to be a drug dealer or a terrorist; apparently, having tattoos and being Venezuelan is enough.

To progress upwards in this industry and not stall out or death spiral, you have to be constantly over performing.

Like the miller's daughter in Rumpelstiltskin, authors must spin straw into gold. Most can't. The few that do, must repeat the miracle, or they still face the chop at some point.

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

After 7 long years, many rewrites and some kind (and not so kind) rejections, my novel is fiiiiiinally where I want it to be. Light some incense for me delve into the querying.
