Most Disney movies, but the one that really shocks people is never having seen The Lion King, for some reason. Also, until very recently, I had never seen a single Star Wars.... except The Mandalorian series.

cannot emphasize enough that thinking that the pro-censorship side has already won is how the pro-censorship side wins

i want to stress: i firmly believe that we, just us normal people, can push back against this global wave of censorship.

we CAN do this.

there may be temporary setbacks, lost battles, but i do firmly believe that with sustained action, we can make our futures better for art and human expression.

You should be ashamed by your lack of factchecking. This "study" (can we even call it that?) extrapolates data from a sex-addiction counseling clinic in Texas. The data were collected using surveymonkey and are clearly p-hacked.

“will they or won’t they” troll/gnome tattoo shop romance drops when?!

Bluesky's auto-censoring of content is so bad, it just censored a book cover with no nudity, no sexual words, no innuendo, nothing: just a woman in a bralette. Literally more covered than a swimsuit. I'm appealing but come ON. And they think they can ban CNC and noncon effectively??
Bluesky's censorship of the above post: "1 label has been placed on this content: Adult Content"
laurentaylorbak.bsky.social
Wow, that's bad timing if coincidental, and suicidal if not. Disney is an evil corporation and I piggyback off someone else's account to watch Star Wars, but I'm not even going to do that now.

I know they fired Kimmel because of the FCC’s mafioso schtick, but what do you mean they recouped losses by charging people more? They punished the people who *didn’t* cancel their subscriptions?
laurentaylorbak.bsky.social
A really high-paying erotica market (DM me for name) takes five-year exclusivity, and they 1) are a subscription-based website, meaning it makes sense they don't want you to reprint elsewhere; and 2) pay commensurately for the privilege. For anthologies/magazines, anything longer than a year is sus!

I am glad it seems AI isn't coming for my job any time soon. Saw another recent post complaining that ChatGPT won't write anything explicit due to new safety protocols.

Erotica may be the last bastion of human writing!

Sex scenes. Hands down. That's where the fun is. That's where the sauce is

#SFFChat Q2: What scenes are the most fun for you to write?
A moon or planet fading into a black, blue, and red gradient background.

Oh I should start tracking mine! That's such a fun idea!

Also: congrats, that's awesome!

I've got a novellette forthcoming with JMS Books! Cover reveal sometime next week, probably.

"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned" (alt translation, "Sorry, Daddy, I've been naughty") is a close second.

"This feels like a human wrote it."

I don't care if that means it's weird/bad/ugly, as long as no one thinks I use AI! As a chronic em-dasher and notoriously blunt (hello audhd!) writer, I worry about coming across as robotic.

What would you hope folks say about you and your work?

(Please quote-post and add

Banner image has the same text as the post. There’s also a smaller image of three spoons that are connected at the base.

Every time "people/Gen Z think there are too many sex scenes in fiction" discourse comes up, I just want everyone to know that I add another sex scene to whatever I'm working on, and every time someone says "I just think that sex scenes need a PURPOSE" I make the scenes even longer. 🥰

This is fantastic! Congratulations! I loved the ending.

There is no future wherein we limit artistic freedom around sex, while not also harming LGBTQ+ people, & increasing the threat of sexual abuse to children via loss of sexual education.

This is an integral part of fascisms rise. Accept that and get on board, or STFU. Otherwise you're aiding fascists

#SFFChat Q1: As Arthur C Clark put it: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

The line is blurry, but the short answer for me is usually 1) whether it breaks the laws of physics, or 2) how the characters in-world view it, especially based on their level of tech.

#SFFChat Q1: What do you consider the difference between science and magic in fiction?

What's the dividing line? Is it subjective? Is it about content or approach?
A moon or planet fading into a black, blue, and red gradient background.
