Formerly of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin, Old Saint Paul's Edinburgh, and numerous other choirs. Choral music and liturgy nerd.

I started singing as a boy treble in my local parish church of St John's Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.

I was also heavily involved in the RSCM Northern Cathedral Singers, and my parents spent many Saturdays taking me to sing in cathedrals all over the north of England.
I look from afar: and lo, I see the power of God coming, and a cloud covering the whole earth.

Go ye out to meet him and say:
Tell us, art thou he that should come to reign over thy people Israel?

On Advent Sunday, in anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, I’m at York Minster, as it emerges from darkness into full candlelight in the stunning and atmospheric Advent Procession.

Accurately describes me at the end of the Advert Procession...
For the voice of my groaning: my bones will scarce cleave to my flesh.

Advent begins today.

A season of watchfulness and hope.

If you are looking for a quiet moment amid December’s noise, Evensong offers calm, beauty, and space to breathe.

After an hour of standing for the Advent Procession, when I finally got to sit down near the end I must admit I let out an old-man 'Urghhh' sitting noise.

Today is Stir-up Sunday - the day people traditionally make Christmas puddings.

The name comes from the collect for the day in the Book of Common Prayer: “Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people...”

Are you making a pudding today?

Often when it says 'W' it's shorthand for William, and I wonder if his friends called him Willy? 🤷‍♂️
