Dear previous owner: the solution to irritating book goo is Goo-Gone or your local equivalent, NOT sealing the goo behind a layer of packing tape, thereby obliging your successor-in-interest to mop up a layer of Gen2 goo.

ARC Thrift yesterday. I don’t know whether to be proud because someone finally managed to purge all their useless thirty-year-old manuals (IYKYK), or sad because they died.

Bought Deep Heat 8 instead of this on our ‘91(?) ComicCon trip. No regrets but I always wondered what I missed…remembering BLEEP as the title, not the artist. Friday on Bandcamp the cover popped up and I recognized it instantly after 35 years bwa ha haaa!!! crammed-discs.bandcamp.com/album/the-no...

Until 5m ago I did not remember that Bandcamp Friday isn’t every month so the preceding hour and a half poking around and adding to my wishlist just makes December 5th more fun! (Highlights include Montaigne, Bass Kittens, Geir Jenssen, and a bunch of SSR stuff I have on 12” from back in “the day”.)

Another day, another Elton John song mistaken for Scissor Sisters. (Playing your entire record collection on shuffle can reveal some brutal truths.)

I wonder why I’m getting so many weird web site errors when I try to cancel our Hulu and Disney+ subscriptions? It’s like their back-end APIs are getting overwhelmed with traffic or something. Odd.

Normally I’m annoyed when an eBay seller fails to disclose that a book is ex-library, but for this, I’ll make an exception.

(Trust me, it makes a lot more sense if you remember when Duane Gish was constantly in the news. And also if you’re familiar with William Corliss’ Sourcebook Project.)

Am I the only person left who remembers that what passed for “top-tier” games in the Atari 2600 era cost well over $100 in inflation-adjusted TodayBuck$, which frequently bought you completely unplayable garbage that was written in three weeks by one guy locked in a windowless closet?

On the off chance your nightmares haven’t been disturbing enough lately, imagine Donald Trump alone in the Oval Office with the nuclear football, every leader on the planet on speed dial, off his ass on a heavy dose of Elon Musk-supplied ketamine.

That face I’m making? My reaction to the hoops I’m having to jump through to update genius dot com with an explanation of the title of Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”.

props to the #balatro devs for not going with a pay2win model—if they had, they’d be bazillionaires by now

The thermostat is currently set to 64°. The windows and exterior walls of this place are so well insulated that the heat leakage from the downstairs neighbors makes it too hot to sleep in the winter unless we crack a window in the bedroom. Even when it’s in single digits outside.

Holy cow, the vitriol and pearl-clutching over anyone daring to coin a tongue-in-cheek nickname for a hitherto-unlabeled genre. Rarely has a resounding “Ok, boomer!” been more well-earned. youtu.be/kEYUw2kiRfc?...

2.5 hours researching old army surplus stores for a reply I ended up not posting. Oh ADHD I just can’t quit you!

(Noted: The owner-founder of Cooper’s Western Wear bought two-page spreads in the Albuquerque Journal in 1987 and 1989 to share his racist/eugenicist theories on population control.)

Here’s an object distinctly of its moment, specifically the intersection of rave/online/hack/phreak/demoscene/etc. cultures during the last few seconds on planet Earth before THE WEB became A THING. gopher, finger, ftp, bbs numbers, abound but if there’s an “http” in here anywhere I didn’t spot it.

Thrift score: four out of ?? volumes published by Wyandotte Chemicals to promote the various materials they processed and sold. Like midcentury industrial films in book form, they toss overconfidence and naïveté into a blender and press FRAPPÉ. Fun use of alchemical symbols in their branding too.

Cleared my head for a couple hours at the ARC Thrift this afternoon and found loads of New Mexico/southwestern stuff and even some surprise intersectional indigenous/queer lit (the Hectic Planets were a very lucky eBay score)
