I got further ostracized from my old community when my stance on Charlie Kirk was nuanced… apparently thinking Kirk was a racist asshole and that his murder was unjust and wrong is too liberal and complex.

I hate this timeline so much.

I gave up on VFT when Nate said he’d rather listen to Fuentes than Shapiro… like, bro, you’re supposed to be a ‘free thinker’, De Oppresso Liber and stuff. You can be not okay with both of them and still love the Constitution and guns.

Those guys from the Anti Hero podcast and Nate from VFT have gone off the rails.

I used to listen to them and watch them from time to time on YouTube, but not now. Their answer to their unhappiness with Trump is to move further right to Nick Fuentes territory.

Yup… ago there was a several episode podcast about WWI start to finish, it was an incredible listen.

Every time I see footage, or read a story from that war, I’m always left with how unimaginably brutal it must have been.

Right?!? I really enjoyed it.. glad you did too!

If that’s “horrifying,” fine.
Reality is; being trained to follow orders and being cognitively ready to evaluate the legality of those orders in the moment are not the same thing. Pretending otherwise doesn’t make you principled… it just means you’ve probably never lived inside that system.

Demanding blood from 20y/o who were put in impossible situations by people with fully developed brains and far more power? That’s not justice…it’s moral outsourcing.

Hold commanders accountable.
Hold policymakers accountable.
Hold the adults in the room accountable.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Then we throw them into situations where even constitutional lawyers argue about legality, and somehow expect them to parse it flawlessly under pressure.

Empathy is not absolution, but it is realism.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
That’s the part missing here.
We’re not talking about free actors.
We’re talking about young people who have been shaped… neurologically, socially, structurally…to follow the chain of command.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Yes, choosing to enlist carries moral weight. Absolutely.
But let’s not pretend that a 19y/o junior enlisted kid, whose entire training pipeline is built on obedience, cohesion, and survival, has the same moral agency as a seasoned officer, a JAG lawyer, or the policymakers who issue these orders.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
It’s not. It’s twenty-year-olds with half-formed frontal lobes, slammed into a rigid hierarchy, conditioned to obey, and often operating in morally chaotic environments created by adults far above their paygrade.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
I feel as if some folks in this thread are talking about military service in the abstract… like it’s a philosophy seminar where everyone has fully developed brains and infinite clarity.
November 30, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Whilst I mostly agree with this sentiment… I was also once a 20 something junior enlisted service member. What we’re asking these kids to do, goes beyond anything I faced in 3 deployments to Afghanistan.

To put them in this situation is beyond reprehensible.

Moral injuries are real and lasting.

I stood in the window and was like, “Well isn’t nice… another responsible dog owner.”

And then, “WHAT?! Oh. No. You. Didn’t!”

I rushed to grab some shoes, and ran outside to chase her down with the bag of shit. Sambas are not the proper footwear for a high speed pursuit on an icy street however.
November 30, 2025 at 8:33 PM
I’ll have to give this a listen… have you heard the story about how the Dallas Stars ran youth hockey in Texas?

It’s mind blowing.

As much as I miss watching my kid play, I don’t miss the scene at all.

It’s a cost cutting measure… the more Vets AI can encourage to kill themselves, the less the Government has to pay out in compensation in the long run.
November 30, 2025 at 8:22 PM
Vet: “Hey, ChatGPT… I think I’m going to kill myself.”

ChatGPT: “Do you need a comprehensive list of how to do it? Your sacrifice will actually save the country thousands of dollars, thank you for your service.”
