Perpetually exhausted, perks up around cats, may be a squonk 🥺
Had this encounter with this coyote on my sunset river walk last night! As adorable as it was that the coyote laid down in front of me, and as unlikely as it is for coyotes to predate humans, I kept my head on a swivel for their pack mates lest I ended up getting Muldooned.

Great walk, though!

‘tis the season of scary movie marathons, vampy nail polish, and the long-awaited return of daily Spooky Lake Month videos ☺️

This shot in tonight’s Chief of War is one of the most outstanding shots I’ve seen in decades of watching TV.

First ever bloom for my Hoya davidcummingii! Only made me wait five months. It’s a miracle it survived this long.

Nearly finished my IKEA Milsbo Tall greenhouse cabinet! The heat and humidity is weakening the adhesive on the lights and cord covers, and is warping the lights, and I need more fans to improve air circulation. Easy fixes. But I’ve had this going for almost a month and new growths have boomed since.

My African Violet Harmony’s Ice Queen finally bloomed! And holy hell it’s gorgeous!

At the end of my run as I cooled down a coyote visited me, hopefully to absolve me of whatever trial they’d brought to me. And perhaps to give me a new one. Meeting them felt cathartic.

I haven’t really ran in two years. Over two years of existential event after existential event. None good. They’ve pushed me to the point of nuking everything good in my life, bringing myself to my lowest. Tonight under the strawberry moon I ran. Just one mile. And it felt fucking good.

Eeeeeeeee!! This is the first ever leaf of an alocasia azlanii that I grew from corm! This is my first time ever growing a plant from the corm of a mature azlanii that I bought last summer and repotted in the spring. Super excited to have actually succeeded at growing this!

Walking this afternoon to the bike shop on the Sac State campus to pick up my bike from a tuneup. Saw this very relatable squirrel absolutely enjoying this avocado 🥰

Went to Nopalito’s Southwestern Cafe around the corner from my apartment for the first time and look at these glorious plants! They had at least four different begonias in and around the place, all super lush, and these oxalis triangularises growing outside with foliage nearly as large as my hand!

Alriiiight! This finally arrived in the mail and I couldn’t be more excited! Temporarity above my headboard mummy bedroom, but will be relocated into my living room once I get that whole mess sorted.

This week in I Don’t Have Room For Any More Plants: Steve’s Leaves got a begonia ‘American River’. Walk it all the time, live a block away from it, I needed it. My African Violet Snowy Egret will love it. Please no one breed a new hybrid and call it ‘great blue heron’ or ‘double crested cormorant’ 😭

Saw this elegant clarkia (clarkia unguiculata) for the first time! Idk how I missed it after all this time walking the American River Parkway five days a week since 2020 (with some depression breaks peppered in). Easily the prettiest flower I’ve ever seen along the river!
June 3, 2025 at 4:17 AM
Finally got out for a 5 mile walk along the American River Parkway today for the first time since March (thanks, depresh). Saw lots of butterflies, especially western tiger and pipevine swallowtails. Would’ve been 7 miles but I ran into this fella and promptly turned around and skedaddled.

I need to stop coming home with a new plant every time I leave my apartment. I. Don’t. Have. The. Space. 😭

Whoever at Trader Joe’s came up with this is a coldblooded sociopath.

I don’t feel like I’ve earned this because I got this African Violet Cajun’s Coujon in March, but holy cow it’s flowering a lot. The flower pattern and the variegation on the leaves make for a remarkably beautiful plant! I really hope I can keep it alive.

Oooo Oncidium Sharry Baby really does have a delightful fragrance! Milk Chocolate more so than regular chocolate. Three flowers have bloomed and it’s filled my apartment with the fragrance. I can’t imagine how strong it’ll be when the rest of the spike blooms.
May 25, 2025 at 9:27 PM
Ooooo my friend Oncidium Sharry Baby just bloomed for the first time!! The flower spike on these are surprisingly long. 4 feet of flowers to look forward to!

Visited the American River past Old Sacramento after seeing Sinners. Got to watch this sea lion lazing belly up along the American River as a duck and her four ducklings swim past. Then got some macarons and beignets at Le Macaron French Pastries and a dracaena and a croton from Propagate. Good day!

Two of my newest plants have bloomed for the first time! First is a Hoya Multiflora, the first time I’ve gotten a Hoya to bloom! Hoya sp. aff. Burtoniae, Hoya Lacunosa Mint, and Hoya Bella all have peduncles developing! Second is an African Violet Snowy Egret, which is prettier than I expected 😍

This afternoon I saw the American River’s resident leucistic mallard duck! I first saw her in spring 2022 at Paradise Beach teaching her 9 ducklings how to dive. She was solo this afternoon, resting on the riverbank near the H Street Bridge before I spooked her and went back into the water.
