Remembrance Day is now dominated by performative nonsense. You don't need a house sized poppy and a model spitfire to show you care about the sacrifices made for the country. Where's the sense of dignity and the quiet respect gone?

More information coming out now on this. Looks like a Cabinet Office scheme led by Georgia Gould… planned savings of £10m-£30m a year (back up lower Premier League full-back price) don’t really seem worth the candle if this the result IMO.

Dear Secretary of State, As business leaders, trade union leaders and advocates who have witnessed the successful transition to a four-day working week (with no loss of pay) in many contexts, we can say with confidence that it is not just an idea for the future - it is already delivering results today. From different sectors and company sizes, we have all witnessed the same outcome: shorter working weeks are not only viable, but transformative. Businesses have seen measurable gains in productivity. Staff wellbeing and job satisfaction have improved, recruitment and retention have strengthened, and customer service has benefitted from more engaged and motivated teams. Far from being a cost, the four-day week has become a strategic advantage. That is why we are urging you to establish a Working Time Council - a permanent forum that brings together business leaders, industry bodies and trade unions to shape and guide the UK's approach to shorter working weeks over the coming years.
