(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

It'd be interesting AF to see how Belicheck & The UNC AD and alumni handle losing- maybe with cameos from players and students, but that's never going to happen. So I agree that so much content outside games is is over-produced, predictable PR dreck...

(1/2) One of the best ones was Sunderland Till I Die and it was *because* a team that expected to get promoted got relegated- so we got to see how players, staff and even the community dealt with unexpected adversity. Welcome to Wrexham deals with success but it's also quirky, funny and poignant.

I'm not saying anything new, but we've got to stop referring to these kinds of sports content projects as "documentaries."

This UNC incident is just further proof that almost all of them are PR plays taking on a form similar to documentaries.

This is a good thread. The Beatles whether you choose Abbey Road or Let it Be is annoyingly accurate, but good shout for AC/DC's Razor's Edge. From what I've heard of it, Slayer's Repentless is solid. Given their career consistency, I'm sure Mogwai's 12th studio album (their next) will be good.

As a person who doesn't speak sports, it's always weird to me every weekend when social media switches focus from America's fall to fascism... to games. It goes from "holy shit look at this brutal attack on a nanny with no mirandizing and no due process!" to "what a great a touchdown!" So weird.

I *hate* how supposedly highly trained law enforcement officers are allowed to justify everything with "I feared for my life" like it's that old "it's coming right for us" episode of South Park. I get all human beings experience fear and have a right to defend themselves, but it's so often BS.

Generally I bury people for their "old man yells at cloud" baseball takes on here and I understand that A) it's not 1995 anymore, B) matchup issues are important and C) winning is more important than aesthetics- but using 5+ pitchers in an elimination game is just ugly baseball.

Picked Cameron for Mariners 100+ RBI which was great for the rarity score, but meant I was stumped on Padres/Mariners. Didn't realize Zach Duke played for the M's. I had a 3 rarity over 7 former Sox and then 30 for those two slots because all I could think of were Rickey and Arozarena...

The valuation of everything by MAGA (of which DeSantis still is) is the ability to have complete ideological control over it and ideally also monetize it. If they can't do either of those things, they'll purposely destroy it.

Per-student costs were always MUCH higher than the average, but DeSantis and pals' spending spree has depressed every significant academic metric, hemorrhaged faculty, eliminated the school's strong points and replaced it with an athletic program no one in their right mind could give a shit about.

#cf97 clinched a playoff spot in a very #cf97 way, by scoring a ton of goals (while conceding too many). But this team is a lot of fun to watch... I don't know if that'll translate to them winning their first playoff game since 2009, but I'm going to enjoy seeing them try.

Josh Header is obviously Josh Hader and I'm not going to edit a whole thread due to autocorrect issues... Anyway, 99% of people don't care but I felt like I needed to humblebrag and/or explain what the hell happened with my team to anyone here who was in that league with me...

Ironically, I finished much better in this league than the 16 team keeper league where my "A+" rated draft and seemingly good keeper decisions backfired and I finished 13th of 16th. (Finishing 5th of 10 in a Yahoo Public League probably best reflects reality though...).

But I never gave up, I kept up with roster churn and made some good waiver picks and improbably, I started to won. Over the last 9 weeks of the season, I was 7-1-1, moving from 16th or 17th place to 11th. Then won two rounds in the playoffs to finish 9th.

Cole Ragans second ahead of the likes of Harper, Machado, Raleigh, Turner... Then Sonny Gray and Josh Header in the next two rounds. Next two position players were Arenado and Profar. I was so disappointed, I renamed my team the Malorts. I started out 1-8 and after 13 weeks was 3-10...

I didn't get a notification that the time of the draft had changed (I blame my settings) and logged in at the time I expected the draft to be to see the robo-drafter had done me very dirty. After the good choice of Corbin Carroll in the first round, the next four were diabolical...
