Shortest pitch I can give: it's a book about how, when we do history, people get in the way, both the living and the dead.
And it's messy and beautiful and complicated.

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
