Building Newsletter Glue, EventKoi (launching soon), and a bunch of other stuff.

Putting this out into the universe:

Our goal for EventKoi (WordPress events plugin) is $20k/month revenue by end 2025.

I give us 50% chance of succeeding.

I'll share everything (incl revenue) as I go.

Worse case scenario, you'll learn what NOT to do. And why.

Let's do this.
It's alive!

Ahmed and I have been working on EventKoi this whole year and we've finally launched.

Just received the most positive and helpful feedback for TinyStash (our ai bookmarking tool).

We're still in superrr early access, and there's a ton of work to do - including addressing all the "don't love" points in the feedback.

But if you'd like to give it a whirl, please DM me!!!

Singapore academic Donald Low writes about the thing I've been worried about: Singapore's 'born again Chinese', or ethnic Chinese people in the diaspora who have been targeted by CCP propaganda in social media and chat groups

A lot of this is just step one towards challenges to national […]

My favourite way to learn is by force feeding my eyeballs with information about the new thing, then vomiting out feeble attempts until I improve.

You?

Can someone give me the dummy's guide to transactions? Do we need transaction IDs, purchase receipts, invoices on day 1?

I worry about overkill, but also about painting ourselves into a corner cause we didn't set things up right at the start.

Designing this ticket selector made my head hurt.

The flow is:
1. site visitor goes to event page
2. click "get tickets"
3. modal pops up
4. visitor selects quantity of tickets they want to buy.
5. click "checkout"

I don't talk about this much, but recently I've been doing a lot of consulting to help devs/agencies/product teams transition to the block editor. We can go over tooling, workflows, shortcode migrations, anything really. HMU if you're interested👇

For EventKoi, should we make all event attendees also register as users of the site?

When yes? When no?
January 23, 2025 at 7:15 AM
I had to redesign EventKoi's default event template to make it more modular. This lets users add things like ticketing and event organisers without making the UI more and more confusing.

Here's where I landed...

Most business owners think marketing is "Buy Google ads and get customers".

None of them actually want to do the work in order to know who the fuck their customers are; why the fuck they purchased; and how the fuck they went from hearing from you to buying something.

@fabian-kaegy.com i have a question about attributes...

can i use them in a text block? it seems when i try to add an attribute into text, the whole block transforms into the attribute.

E.g.
My event is at event_location

If I try to do this, the whole sentence transforms into "event_location"

Same. I feel like a lot of people are joining but just lurking. I get 10+ notifications every day of new people following me. But rarely do I get engagement on posts. Also, my feed is the same handful of people posting.
As predicted, a lot of the hype from Bluesky a few weeks ago is already dwindling.

I’ve personally observed a handful of creator/theme/moodboardy type accounts that came over here, started posting, saw little success, and have now either deleted accounts or stopped posting altogether.

Sad 😔

Ok fine. I'm finally here. In 2025. About to start my work week.

There's a load of laundry in the washing machine, the floors are freshly vacuumed, and I have a new speaker set up on my desk.

I can't muster much conviction, but let's do this... I guess?

“morbidly wealthy”
"The morbidly wealthy" is exactly the term I've been wanting for a long time
Unfortunately the morbidly wealthy care only about hoarding wealth, and they have spent a lot of money to convince people to vote against their own interests.
Canadians that think we are too smart to let that happen here are purposefully not paying attention.

Is Foundation better than Game of Thrones?

Why, why not?

Let's limit it to GOT seasons 1 and 2, since there are only 2 seasons of Foundation.
