Human, mostly. Reader, definitely.
Thoughts on Rue Morgue: #spoilers
1. How T F would people really think an ape is a person? In other novels, Victorian ones mostly, people change their hair and clothes and are unrecognizable to their family and friends. What? Were they less likely to know faces, or is this a literary trope?

You know when you’re watching Wallander and the goddamned Nokia ringtone keeps playing and getting on your nerves? Yeah, I realized the ringtone on my phone was that. And my alarms and timer.

I feel like we have a date with something terrible and we all know it’s going to be between Election Day and January 20 and maybe beyond but we’re watching the leaves fall in their splendor, and getting cups of coffee, and folding the damn laundry and voting the hell out of our ballot …

If anyone is interested, BJ Harrison’s The Classic tales podcast is releasing an audio version of Frankenstein. It’s 8 episodes and they look like they’re about an hour each.

I’ve heard relatively little discussion over the best reason to vote for Kamala Harris and that is that Samuel Alito wants to retire and Clarence Thomas is 80 years old and we either can replace them with Ketanji Brown Jackson or 35 year old Samuel Alito and 35 year old Clarence Thomas

First frost last night. Lawns with an open view of the night sky are rimed with sparkling frozen dew. Or, since it’s October, they’re sparkly vampires!

I just saw someone on her morning walk reading a book. She’s now one of my people. Can we be friends?

Lying in bed scrolling my phone in early autumn so the window is open and I’m kinda cold. Do I stay in bed and be a little cold indefinitely (Scylla) or get out of bed and grab sweats risking death by cold to maybe get cozy warm (Charybdis). The ancient Greeks knew, man, that shit’s real.

Reading a mystery novel and they describe a man as rugged. Oh shit, I didn’t realize this is a romance.

Romystery? Mystance?

Sometimes when I take my toast out of the toaster oven I see flashes of light inside the toaster, should I worry about that?
You’re right, I’ll stop overthinking this.

Have you ever gotten up to go do something, walk into the next room, and totally forget what you were there to do?

That's DOORWAY EFFECT, a well-studied phenomenon where crossing a boundary subconsciously shifts our focus from short-term memory to a state of alerted awareness.

I’m finishing up “No time like the past” by Jodi Taylor and loving it but next …whoo … next is “The Black Rose” by Thomas Costain. I read it in HS and loved it so please don’t spoil it for me if it doesn’t hold up well. I’ll figure it out. It’s only 400 pages but so much happens!
