A smart woman once told me we'd only achieve equality when women's clothing had adequate pockets. I thought she was being witty. Oh. Turns out women have long been denied deep pockets so they couldn't conceal nefarious things--potions and pamphlets and such. sartorialmagazine.com/fashion-1/20...
Pocket Patriarchy — Sartorial Magazine

Remember all the times you thought about 1939--or really any terrible precipice in history--and imagined if you were alive then and there, how you would have acted?
How are you doing today against that measure?

I know I imagined doing more to resist and help others, so that's what I intend to do.

Read this article NOT because it has a firsthand recent account of what science and healthcare denialism costs in terms of lives but because it talks about turning this around by mobilizing--if people really want to.

Canada's 51st state prospects? Meet Puerto Rico, 127 years after US invasion: No vote in presidential elections, no representation in Congress beyond one non-voting member. "Life on the island includes a yearslong economic crisis with high levels of poverty and unemployment."
Why did Puerto Rico become part of the US? And why is it not a state? Experts explain

Canadians, here's what you can do: Cancel travel plans to the US. It’s treasonous to spend $$ there right now. Buy Canadian or from other countries - not American. Do without. Get off X—staying supports Musk. Pull investments out of the US—it will cost you, but make the sacrifice. Stand together.

I grew up a Canadian in America. At 20, I chose to make Canada my country because here, unlike there, women had constitutionally protected equal rights. This was probably the most overlooked news story of the past week - for what it's worth now. www.npr.org/2025/01/17/n...
Biden says the Equal Rights Amendment is law. What happens next is unclear
To come into effect, the constitutional amendment would need to be formally published or certified by the national archivist, who has declined to do so in the past. What happens now is unclear.
