The government's lack of a plan prompted Comey's counsel, Fitzgerald, to say that the prosecution "put the cart before the horse."

Usually, you figure out classified information issues in consultation w/ DOJ's national security division *before* bringing a case, he said.

All the prosecution/DOJ needs is to ask Trump to cast his mind's eye on the image of the classified info, then poof, it's done. That is, all he has to do is think about declassifying, like in the Maralago case...

Comey’s defense counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, said he expects that batch to include a motion regarding abuse of grand jury process and an “outrageous government conduct” motion.

Oh sure….because when Congress can’t agree on a budget, the obvious solution is for the White House to just grab the national credit card and start swiping tariff money like it’s a Black Friday sale. Who even needs checks and balances, right? The Constitution’s just a suggestion, apparently.

One of my final interactions on Twitter was to post asking if anyone had an old bike that I could buy to use as a winter commuter.

Someone instead offered me a free bike. We learned we lived nearby. I brought him a case of beer in exchange.

I still ride that bike and we still correspond.

You'd think Chris Alexander would want to get out ahead of this and explain how he was duped or why he felt compelled to do some duping. Muttering "nationalsecurity" up your sleeve and sideling away is not the sort of thing one might expect from a man concerned with defending his own reputation.

Despite repeated requests for comment, Alexander has refused to speak to The Walrus on the record, citing unspecified national security concerns. He has not made any statements outside parliamentary protection on the subject of his accusations against Pugliese, and no new evidence has been offered. “I think there is now reason to seriously entertain the notion that they are forgeries,” says Rudling, who has corresponded with Bianchin about his investigation of the documents. “The burden of proof is now squarely on Alexander.”
