It's that day again, happy Haggis Appreciation Day to all who celebrate (as I did, last night)
An English doctor is being shown around a Scottish hospital. he is shown round the Coronary unit and the weight management clinic, the substance abuse clinic and is impressed with the work being done. At the end of his visit, he is shown into a ward with a number of patients who show no obvious signs of injury. He goes to examine the first patient he sees, and the man proclaims: "Fair fa' yer honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o' the puddin' race!" The English doctor, somewhat taken aback, goes to the next patient, and immediately the patient launches into: "Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it." This continues with the next patient: "Wee sleekit cow'rin tim'rous beastie, O what a panic's in thy breastie!" "Well," the English doctor mutters to his Scottish colleague, "I see you saved the psychiatric ward for the last." "Oh no," the Scottish doctor corrected him, "this is the serious Burns unit."

Can confirm, our old flat had a resident wood pigeon couple, one of which just liked to sit on the windowsill and watch us doing our silly human things for hours.

They'd get upset if my partner did the wrong thing at the wrong time, like scrolling their phone instead of reading before work.

Eric dug out some of their esoterica written by David Farrant and Sean Manchester, occultist cranks from North London, and I think this is going to be some top-tier nonsense.
Shortly before Christmas 1986 a letter arrived from David Farrant, dated 21st December, challenging me to a duel. It did not specify whether pistols, swords or psychic powers were his intended method.

Taking a break from writing to read around a few things I ordinarily wouldn't to keep the wells of inspiration fresh.

Currently reading 18thC travelogues, mostly one man wandering around being rude about the Cotswolds and The North. It's quite delightful, given I know some of the areas well.
