I'm glad to see their legacy lives on. That was definitely us.

Keeps her culturally relevant, which can lead to further sales/taking her seriously. So no, not ethical either. Let it die.

Meet my newest creation Edith the Moth Phantom! I designed and hand-sewed her. She enjoys singing sea shanties with her cryptid band. They perform primarily for the moon. She also likes appearing to travelers as good or bad omens, depending on her mood.

Here's a lovely photo of my fabric art moth phantom. She's a white moth phantom with a gray face, large twinkly black eyes, and a little frown. She has curly white antennae. There are black and gray oval markings on her wings. There's a beautiful galaxy print fabric in the background. Here's another lovely pic of Edith. In this one, she's resting on my palm.

People keep going "buy fan merch, not official!".

She has said outright that support for Harry Potter is support for her.

And is a trans person walking down the street meant to hold their breath until they get close enough to see if your shirt says (TM) Warner Bros or not?

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

The Post Bar, a bit further down. It has a tiny black cat and a tiny tortie.
lhardingwrites.bsky.social
There is a bar on Tottenham High Road with two cats who are very soft.

Once again, having to tap this sign.

Please give up Harry Potter. Please.

But trans people need your *material* help as well. I know that's more difficult than just reading another book, but the right thing to do is seldom easy.
lhardingwrites.bsky.social
While it's nice to see more noise about how terrible JKR is, as a trans woman I would appreciate it if there was less focus on "here's what you can read instead" and more "here's how you can materially help trans people".

We're the victims here, please stop centring the purity of your bookshelves.
lhardingwrites.bsky.social
This is moral cowardice, right here.
swarmpicker.bsky.social
Fuck this.

Rowling has turned out to be a terrible person but my kids loved her books and future kids (and adults) will too. This is like people who wouldn't vote for Biden because Gaza. You fucked us all.

Respond to the issues and not the person. Bad people can write good books, and often do.

Oh no, sometimes doing the right thing is difficult (*not that difficult), however can the marginalised expect an iota of help?

Getting it from the libraries still funds her, and she relies on cultural acumen as much as financial. So no, there is no longer an ethical way to engage with HP.

Shout out to the old man in a straw hat in Gordon Sq park who rocked up onto the lawn, scattered a load of seed, then produced a folding chair and had his bento box while surrounded by pigeons. Impeccable energy.

Hergé would probably hate this but we who grew up reading Tintin comics when we were too young to note the very problematic parts of them are very here for it

We did, however, get greeted by a very soft cat who was probably the better friend in the long run.

Trying to meet people in a new city chronicles:

It's amazing how many groups who say they're open to new members make zero effort to interact with or even acknowledge people trying to get involved.

I know I'm weird & neurodivergent but I'd keep an eye out for potential new people hovering, y'know?

As always, today is a good day to support artists, writers, creators. If you have the means, maybe consider signing up for a Patreon. Buy a book, a game, a painting. Commission a new piece. Tell a creator what they mean to you. Signal boost their work.

Happy World Octopus Day! To celebrate, here’s the first piece in my series of Octopolis tarot cards: The Fool!
#octopolis #worldoctopusday #octopus #tarot
A digital illustration within a tarot card frame titled ‘The Fool’. The images is of a mimic octopus bursting through the surface of the ocean into a sunlit day. The octopus is covered in many colored stripes. It holds one arm up through which light refracts. In another arm it holds a bundle of kelp. Beneath the water is a yellow cuttlefish looking very happy.

We need to use AI as a wake-up call to look at the pernicious profit structures that already direct liveable lives *away* from makers and workers, not settle for them as the best alternate. AI should make us want more for ourselves & less for the bosses & investors.

But I always knew that would be the case (save for going into academia or heritage). I wanted to spend a few years doing something I actually enjoyed and was interested in. I would have been a lot more miserable if I hadn't studied what I did and met the people I did through it.

My degrees in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic made me who I am (for better and worse) and I have no regrets.

But since then I've been in admin and office management. The degree is mostly for story fuel and spouting trivia at interested parties.

Also going to update this with a posh white woman audibly changing how she talked to me on the phone when I gave her my female name, and a two-doors-down black neighbour who knocked just now to introduce himself, saw a clocky trans woman in a cardigan, and cheerfully yelled "alright darlin'!".
lhardingwrites.bsky.social
As a trans woman who recently moved to North London, I can confidently say I get less weirdness on Tottenham High Road than in the City. And the only place cars have actually slowed down as they passed me to stare was the Cotswolds.
