Everyone should watch Escaflowne because it's a really good series that only got a little bit kneecapped by having to cut the storyline from 39 episodes to 26. It's got dragons, it's got robots, it's got romantasy and it's one of those older isekai where it's not a power fantasy set in a video game

That was why I went for it. It was a series that I could get into but had already been concluded so I'd know when the end was/that there would be one.

That said since then I prefer standalones. Every fantasy being the start of a trilogy that it becomes near impossible to get the last one of sucks.

I feel like I like fantasy in principle but it takes something with a bit of bite to the prose to actually interest me. Like Malazan/Spear Cuts Through Water/Winged Histories/Saint of Bright Doors.
