Hello new followers! I’m Kayleigh Hearn, an award-winning queer freelance writer/editor specializing in all things pop culture: comics, movies, horror — the weirder and more ephemeral, the better. And hey, I’ve even got some fiction out there!

To get caught using AI to write a news announcement for a Vampirella book is wild. Like clearly it’s been used before with that “clickbait headline” bit.

I covered yesterday but I do not have enough to cover the rest of the week. I still need to raise $650. If I can’t get that in the next few hours, I need $140 just to cover today. Any dollar helps. I just need to keep a roof over our heads.
My apologies for doing this on such short notice, but some aid fell through and I need to raise $750 to pay for the room by tomorrow. I don’t expect to actually get it all by the morning, but literally any help that will even let me cover a couple of days at a time would be extremely appreciated.

like, I get it, I’m a freelance writer who has to forcibly carve out time to work while raising a toddler alongside a spouse with a 9-5 day job, but the folks reacting to Haruki Murakami’s work routine like it shot their dog are baffling to me.

You walk into this bar and show your ICE mugshot, you don't pay a dime.
Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

If you’re not too strapped for $ right now, can people who follow me get $175 of this covered? Even small donations get it there. I will cover the other half.

Thank you on behalf of MN!
My husband is working with a group delivering groceries to families from an overwhelmingly Hispanic school in Mpls. He will be buying groceries this Friday. $350 will finish covering their food needs for the week; if he raises more he will buy TP/laundry detergent. Venmo: Edward-Burke-MSP.

Not going to argue with the "movies should have perfect politics!" people because it's boring, or try to convince anyone that I'm not in the tank for PTA (I am), but I do have some fairly succinct thoughts on the matter.

Your Libby rental was free for you, but did you know it cost the D.C. Public Library $59.99?

The e-book boom (and a complicated pricing model from publishers) has left library systems strapped for cash. But D.C. lawmakers have a plan to fight back. 51st.news/ebooks-are-e...
Libraries can't afford e-books. D.C. lawmakers have a plan.
The demand and price for e-books is up — and it’s busting the D.C. Public Library budget.

me watching that Spider-Man fan film from the 70s with the guy just swinging on a rope between apartment buildings
it's a real problem that a good number of the best, most exciting movies ever made, were made in reckless, often extremely unsafe ways, and that the palpable lack of safety often gives them their energy
