As soon as I touch your child's library book, it becomes a transgender library book. I will not apologise. I also do pictures, mostly for @lhardingwrites.bsky.social.

(I yelled "I'm a dipshit!" and got the broom and hoover and waited for her to take a photo of the muddy stairs before cleaning up.)

Fascinating social experiment where my partner posted about a silly thing I did and was then reminded just how many people seem to actively resent their partner by how many people were fully rage posting in the comments rather than finding it funny.

We went to my martial arts thing together, and so @lhardingwrites.bsky.social is sleepy and just muddled up Kenneth Branagh and Kemi Badenoch, which would be VERY different murders in the Orient Express.

I was genuinely terrified of ET as a kid.
It's a low bar, most things scared me, but still.

Yep, absolutely.

Yeah, it does smack of someone having complicated feelings and instead of addressing them, just slipping an "I am a marginalised victim" attitude on it and moving on.

It's never perfect as an adult, but it's far, far better than most kids have access to because they're just assumed to not really be people, especially if they're disabled.

I was in a training session that was (coincidentally) library staff and people from the SEND services team, and something we talked about was how adults have far more ability to alter your environment to suit your sensory needs, whereas children are assumed to just need to tolerate sensory hell.

Weirdly bioessentialist use of afab as a stand-in for woman there too. Like, sure there are some gay men who aren't interested in trans men, but it's not like the experiences of a gay trans man and a straight cis woman fancying a gay man will be remotely the same, many gay trans men do just fine.

I seem to remember there was an article I read a couple of weeks back about how Netflix's highly standardised anglophone approach to subtitles has actually caused a lot of problems in subtitling practices more broadly. The article focused on crunchyroll but I suspect it's more widespread.

Not sure if it still does this seeing as I'm no longer struggling through books about philology in languages I don't have an advanced vocabulary in.

This is something I actually noticed with Google translate and other machine translation tools c. 2015 or so - it would turn all the mentions of the original language into mentions of English.

There's one important rule for my analog painting technique. It is... “Don't paint adjacent colors consecutively; wait a day before painting them.” I adopted this rule because I want to avoid bleeding at the edges as much as possible.

Applying a mixture of pyrrol red and pyrrol scarlet to the goldfinch's 'mask.' The first brush is loaded with paint, the second, clean water. Watercolour on silk.

I should remember to include Customary Scale Penny when filming, too.
