One issue generally overlooked in the whole screenwriter vs gamewriter, discussion is time.

Beyond anything to do with training, ability, style etc is the amount of time screenwriters get to invest in a script.

Whilst there are time pressures on any writer, the vast amounts of script that-

This honestly feels like a consequence of bad prototyping. If the core loop, thematics, and end destination were firmly set (and communicated) from the get-go – going out of pre-planning – things would still be chaotic, but much less so 🥲

Haven't played metaphor yet but just going off the Persona-series, they likely rely on you using items and/or upgrading weapons somehow. I'd look through my inventory + all the shops and see if anything there might help!

My game, Beyond Sunset, is made on the GZDoom game engine, a modern port of the classic Doom engine. We originally used the engine's support for Strife: Quest for the Sigill to power our character interactions, but eventually replaced it with our own JSON-based dialogue trees with a graphical editor
