tons of people who were right about iraq from the jump got purged from their careers and sure as shit didn't get to come back, much less have prominent positions. especially notable within journalism and political commentary.

only the people who were wrong keep getting work.

My adult life has been a long and terrible realization, time and again, that the Right does not have any first principles beyond power.

They believe that they should hold it, and that anyone else having any is an affront to them personally.
There's a quote a lot of people know about the Right, attributed often to political scientist Frank Wilhoit:

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Regardless, this was always about ensuring that a mass media platform could not compete with US monopolies, that the platform and all data was in US hands, that it could be used by the US to shape the narrative and censor certain types of content.

So much for the free market and competition.
