Had been waiting for an in-depth profile on who is likely to be Seattle’s next mayor and was wondering who was going to do it … bookmarking for later !

In our October issue, Stranger Editor @hmwinter.bsky.social shadowed mayoral candidate Katie Wilson to find out how much we didn't know about our leading mayoral candidate.

I loved my time in school and extended it as long as possible
to spend time thinking, reading and writing and avoiding real life, but boy is there some dark stuff happening at these institutions that charge students obscene amounts of money …

PS Would be curious to know what the board knew when and what they think of this decision now.

“Cascade PBS paid CEO Rob Dunlop over $500,000 last year. The executive team made over $2 million in salaries and bonuses. Union members estimate they collectively made $950,000 a year.”

Sacrificing the newsroom during a time when journalism is a vitally important check on authoritarian power was the only way to stay afloat for Cascade PBS. Right? Well, according to an internal report, the finances were actually... good:

Cascade PBS Newsroom Axing Preventable, Union Says
Cascade PBS laid off 16 positions, including its entire news staff, and blamed it on Trump cuts. The union says the layoffs weren't a financial inevitability.

We are deeply upset with Cascade PBS execs' decision to eliminate the news operation and lay everyone off. It's been wonderful to see the outpouring of support and anger folks have shown this week. If you want to share that anger with the bosses, we'd appreciate it. actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

“The Cascade PBS suits blamed Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress for nationwide cuts to federal support for public broadcasting…We’re going to go ahead and call that what it plainly is: mendacious bullshit.” open.substack.com/pub/washingt...

Absolutely right. Your local PBS station just capitulated to Trump.

I understand most people's final day is Oct. 31. As if you needed more confirmation of how out of touch KCTS leadership is with its own news operation, I'm pretty sure this is the second time they've fired people days before an election.

I heard the news this morning. I owe everything to Crosscut and this breaks my heart. Frankly, it always felt over managed by people who’d never worked in print journalism before. My heart goes out to everyone there

BREAKING: Cascade PBS, which operates the website Crosscut, is laying off 19 people, reportedly including its entire news staff. In an email to staff, CEO Rob Dunlop blamed federal cuts, saying the nonprofit is "winding down our longform, written journalism."

$36K more in other compensation !
lillyanafowler.bsky.social
Key part here : we’ve always known the CEO of Cascade PBS makes too much compared to most of the staff at the station : more than $500K. He’s refused to take a pay cut & now he has laid off an entire newsroom. When the head of a local PBS station makes that much, budget constraints are an excuse.

Honestly, same. I learned a lot at Cascade PBS and met a lot of really good people there. My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the lay offs. You all deserve better from management.

Earlier today, FCC Chair Brendan Carr said “we can do this the easy way or the hard way” about Disney/ABC “taking action on Kimmel.”

Hours later, ABC pulled Kimmel off the air.

It’s a blatant crackdown on free speech by an authoritarian administration. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...

1. Just so we’re clear, this is the clip that got Jimmy Kimmel’s show shelved by ABC.

If I’m missing any other clips please let me know.

For the record.

My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.

I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."
