A new study from our School of Government and International Affairs finds female politicians in the USA are judged more harshly than men. Is US politics trapped in a gender bias? Find out more 👉 www.durham.ac.uk/news-events/...

The Joint EPS X CSBBCS Meeting is now done! Presenting my work was a rewarding experience and I recommend these societies' meetings to all ECRs. I also got some inspiration for future studies from the amazing cogn psych research presented. Thanks to @exppsychsoc.bsky.social for having me! ✨

Day 2 of the joint EPS X CSBBCS meeting completed! Today, I attended some super interesting talks on metacognition, mental imagery, visuospatial skills in progressive supranuclear palsy, as well as an anxiety-inducing but nevertheless great undergraduate prize talk (see below)! ✨

Quite enjoyed The Book of Why by Judea Pearl and Dana Mackenzie - a nonfiction book on causal inference that explores human intuition; delves into the sometimes-juicy history of statistics; has lots of causal diagrams to unpick; and reflects on the importance of AIs understanding causes and effects.

A common claim in #EvoPsych is that the persistence of psychological sex differences in gender-egalitarian* countries shows that the differences are innate. I've argued that ignores the highly-gender-unequal media environment. Now @larawood.bsky.social has proved me right!

I will be presenting at University of Dundee in around a month's time at the EPS x CSBBCS meeting about topics relevant to EDI in STEM and the news below has reminded me how relevant this is...

The University of Dundee is currently trying to make 100% of female research Professors in the School of Science and Engineering redundant.

100% OF FEMALE RESEARCH PROFESSORS!

Only one female professor (teaching and scholarship) from that School will remain working on our UK campuses.

Good spot, I can see something in Table 1 about frequencies in terms of gender identity and looks like only n = 4 NB and n = 2 other identities, and while not explicitly mentioned I would assume the rest of the sample are cis individuals.

Two interesting new papers found that women tend to underestimate their abilities and exhibit more pronounced STEM-related gender-career associations - the latter also applies to AFABs and non-binary individuals. Both studies call the need for targeted interventions to mitigate these (self-)biases.

Interesting paper about a novel mental rotation task best suited for 9-14yos: the Little Man Task 🕴️
Could be used cross-culturally and seems easy to explain and administer! Although has potential to be more inclusive?

Last push for participants for our study of sex/gender differences in cognition- we desperately need more autistic men and neurotypical men to take part. You will need a computer/laptop with a keyboard to complete the study.
