The survivors, brought to their senses by the disaster, gave chase to the woman; but she, laughing in mockery, changed herself into a wren and flew away.

It was essentially just a thing that happened.

It's sort of pre-corruption I guess.
lines.snail.skin
No, that is fair. But I think this kind of thing is shockingly common in general unfortunately.
lines.snail.skin
think we should both be very careful about accusations of corruption that exclude our own parties

with the best will in the world I'm not sure it's not how you do things up there

It's nice to see Duskwight love!

Shale, I think? Though that doesn't quite count I think.

There's also some kind of meme about things being "promised 3000 years ago" which, again, is classical religious antisemitism.
lines.snail.skin
I hadn't quite thought of "demonic" in that way but I see your point. Certainly when directed at certain targets!

Somebody could build one!

You know, I'm not sure this is part of a considered criticism of the recent actions of the state of Israel (very bad) at all!

You can search the phrase right now on Bluesky and find someone calling an American Jewish filmmaker "spiritually Israeli" btw, in case you thought that wouldn't get used in the obvious antisemitic way.
lines.snail.skin
Just learnt the phrase/meme "spiritually Israeli" and WOW, I hate it!

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I do feel like self-driving vehicles in cities at least feels super viable, though I'm not sure how well it works outside of larger metropolises and the like.

It's fascinating to me that there's a whole "AI skeptic" misinformation ecosystem out there that somehow continues to deny that Waymo exists. Like, this is easy to fact check! Waymo runs publicly-available service in 5 cities, you can just go look up how it works and see it's not planned routes!
A bluesky post with the user's handle cropped out: "In 2015, I was told, confidently, that AI would end human drivers in the trucking industry w/in 5 years.

[Begin my highlight]10 years later, and there’s what-some experimental cabs rolling around a few cities in heavily-engineered preset routes?[end my highlight]

Not to mention the fact that the AI industry itself is Enron on heroin."

I agree a lot with this and it gets to an older understanding of liberalism I've mentioned before. It is more primal and "no kings" is actually a great slogan for it. The problem is "a king can do whatever he wants to you."

It doesn't make any sense to conceive of due process as a right that individual people can have or not have at all tbh. Bad framing from the start. Due process is a restriction on the government's actions, and by definition it applies to either everyone or no one.

I have... heard things... about Deloitte's internal culture regarding AI presently. Not good things.

In short (and I don't blame MPs for this) it's a lot easier to embrace the narcotic embrace of techno-optimism if you don't know much about technology beyond a somewhat engaged layperson.
lines.snail.skin
I feel like something which is underwritten is that the relatively low science and technology literacy of our MPs means that it's easy for them to be bamboozled by flimflam merchants and those colleagues who serve as the tribunes of the same.
